What if Jane Bennet had been born with a chromosome abnormality like Down Syndrome? Find out in this variation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.

In Regency England, Elizabeth Bennet faces a year of formidable challenges. Her beloved sister Jane, born with a disability, finds herself in the midst of societal pressures that test Elizabeth’s protective instincts. As the Bennet family navigates these hardships, Elizabeth must confront those who would exploit her sister’s condition.

Meanwhile, Fitzwilliam Darcy, burdened with his own family secrets, grapples with his father’s mysterious past and concerns for his sister’s future. His path crosses with the Bennets as he and Elizabeth confront their prejudices and misunderstandings under trying circumstances.

As Elizabeth fiercely defends Jane’s dignity against the encroachments of the Bingley family, Darcy contemplates a revelation that could change everything. In a society where status and decorum often dictate actions, will the truths about the Darcy and Bennet families unite them or drive them apart?

A Most Beloved Sister is a compelling tale of loyalty, truth, and the powerful bonds of family in the face of adversity.

Trigger warning: mistreatment of persons born with disabilities.

A Most Beloved Sister is a full-length, sweet regency romance novel that is a variation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.

I highly enjoyed this story. It was enlightening. Only thing I think was a bit too much was all the religious speeches towards the end. The funeral, the christening and wedding. Love the dearly beloved etc but this was a bit much. Other than that a great story.

Lovely story

Loved the main narrator. The voice for Jane was way too juvenile and squeaky and kind of ruined the story.

Jane's voice

I think overall the story was really well written and executed. The story of P&P is re-worked in this variation where Jane and Georgiana have chromosomal abnormalities; the parts of these characters were read by family members of the author with the same condition. I respect that they chose to do that rather than have a voice actor try and portray that voice, I think it gave the story authenticity. Specifically with Jane, the reader sounded much younger than Jane's character, so that was hard to embrace and a bit distracting. I think the author did a really wonderful job creating new "prejudices" to create tension in the story, they felt very appropriate and true to the nature of P&P. Darcy & EB experience a nice long relationship of tension, then revelation, then getting to know one another, so that was rewarding. Wickham was great, I really like the storyline created for him. Caroline, Mrs. Bennet and Mr Collins - eewww, they were horrible.

Harry Frost was spectacular as usual. The Family readers did a great job also.

The only reason for not marking higher stars for the actual story is the amount of sermonizing. I'm ok with a little bit of bible reading or sermonizing, it can sometimes add to the overall feel of the period. But of the last 2 hours in this book, at least an hour of it is HEAVY bible verse reading and preaching. It's really distracting to have to focus on hitting the ffwd button thru that amount of a book right when all the good storyline and wrap up is supposed to be happening. It totally ruined the whole book for me because it was so good up to that point. Then I was annoyed! it had such a rewarding build-up but ended on a total letdown, so i basically missed the last 20 minutes of the good part of the story - once you are past the preaching - becasue i couldn't focus because i was trying to get over being annoyed.

Interesting premise but WAY too much preaching

I don’t have a problem with the topic or the narration. The narration was excellent. I got left in the dust at the notion that Jane would be an appropriate love interest for Bingley. It made my skin crawl when I followed that through to its conclusion. It would be like raping a child. Maybe something happens in future chapters that would change my perception that the Bennets would even entertain the notion of Jane marrying, but I am not sticking around to find out. There are other, more appropriate ways to include how disabilities were dealt with, or not, during the Regency period and that would begin with Bennet ensuring that Jane was safe.

This variation has a very different Bennet family. Jane has a disability, Elizabeth was not the one slighted at the assembly, Kitty’s storyline is surprisingly interesting. Many of the key points in this variation has the same as in P&P without the chance encounter at Pemberley-this happens in London.
The voice actors (Harry Frost ❤️ and the Lindsey voices) gave life to this glimpse into England’s past. Darcy and Wickham’s past is significantly different than canon. I enjoyed this refresh even though it was painful for both men in different respects. I had a hard time readying the kindle part, I could not stop listening to this narration, Loved it❤️

Beautifully and Respectfully narrated
