This is an opposite attract, wrong side of the track, billionaire romance where the girl is the billionaire. Jaclyn meets the boy on the dock, he’s the one who is bullied and mistreated because he’s so poor and his dad’s in prison. She’s the billionaire trust fund girl whose parents marriage is a sham and wants a real friend. 12 years later when they meet again, he’s gone through the military, grown 6 inches and muscled up. She’s lost her fiancé and has been living in the past and refusing to have a relationship with anyone. She’ll only spend time with him because of their friendship. Brooks will take her with any conditions she puts up. Then old secrets are revealed that can and does tear them apart.
I hadn’t read the first books in the series and I figured they were there, but I could easily understand what was happening here. It’s a good story and well narrated and kept my interest. I only figured out what was happening shortly before it was revealed.

I've liked Jaclyn from the beginning of this series. She's smart, independent & down to earth - despite her family's wealth, she's caring & considerate instead of being full of herself.

I liked Brooks even more. He was a sweet guy who overcame so much to become such an impressive man despite his challenging circumstances.

You might think that this is going to be a poor guy/rich girl trope, but I love that it's not even really on Brooks' radar (though it was when he first met her back in high school). They actually both share difficult family backgrounds & upbringings despite how money defined their situations so oppositely.

The story was really well done. It starts at a mellow pace (but not slow), which fits our intro to the protagonists & their contentment with their lives as they are. Things pick up when they meet again, & they find they have an unexpected connection that will majorly challenge their relationship.

I was quickly drawn in to their story and all the feels, such that I didn't put it down until it was finished! The way they ended up together was written so believably & poignantly. I loved how the ending had brought them full circle from the prologue. I still have a dopey smile on my face even now, lol.

*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

[The narrator, Liz Krane, has a wide vocal range that allows her to distinguish the characters voices really well & allows you to easily stay immersed in the story]
