Publisher's summary

She’s taken herself out of the dating game. He’s the king of meaningless relationships. Will a late-night meeting change their minds about love?

Briony’s last boyfriend was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Jumping off the dating merry-go-round was a no-brainer. That decision sent shock waves through her nearest and dearest. She doesn’t expect them to understand. They’ve never walked in her shoes. They don’t know how stressful dating is when there’s a monkey on your back. It’s never been a matter of if the ax will fall but when and what form it’ll take. A girl can handle only so much rejection before she stops believing there’s a happily ever after in her future.

A dozen years in the NFL made Hollis a household name. These days he’s famous for two things: turning a nearly bankrupt regional sporting goods chain into a highly successful national brand and being a heartless playboy. The first is an indisputable fact. The second is a label that’s only as accurate as who’s being asked. Hollis never lies to women about his intentions. He makes it clear he’s not interested in walking down the aisle. Is it his fault no one believes him?

A dose of pure happiness!

I'm not generally a fan of friends-to-lovers tropes because they tend to be so similar in plots, but this 5th installment in the Sawgrass series gives it a more original twist with two people, flawed in different ways & wounded by romance, who become friends and then gradually more.

It was fun - and a relief - to see this different view of Hollis from the brief, seemingly smarmy appearance he made in No Matter What & realize that he's not actually a user, he's just what you might call a surfer rather than a deep sea diver when it comes to romance.

Briony is opposite Hollis in many ways, but their differences have complimentarity, and it works for them. She's got an awkward secret that was at the root of her last breakup, however, and she's convinced that it means she's unlovable & unmarriageable - especially to a guy like Hollis.

The development of their relationship isn't rushed, so it feels true to life & believable, which made it easy to immerse into the story & not want it to end.

The story works just fine as a standalone, but I did enjoy the guest appearances of characters from the previous books & hearing a little about how they're doing.

All in all, this was a dose of pure happiness & a definite new entry for my rereads list!

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

[The narrator does an excellent job with making the different characters' voices distinctive & narrating in a natural voice so that she helps you get into the story instead of being distracted from it]

Sweet, clean romance

I’ve enjoyed this author in the past and this book was no exception. It’s a light, predictable story and even though I am not wild about billionaire stories This one kept my attention. The narrator;however, was not a good choice … unless you like breathy and fake, screechy or chipmunk!
