Story
Edith Livingston Grayson can hardly wait to shake the dust of Sweetwater Springs, Montana, from her silk skirts. Finally her exile to the small prairie town is over. She is returning home to Boston with her son, Ben. Home to society. Home to educated, upper-class people. Home to the ocean. Story
Stepping off the train in Sweetwater Springs, Montana, Elizabeth Hamilton is filled with relief, nerves, and the thrill of hope. Life on her dear friend’s ranch will be very different than Gilded Age Boston’s high society. But at least here, Elizabeth is far from her spiteful sister-in-law and the bittersweet memories of her late fiancé.
Nick Sanders has loved Elizabeth since he first glimpsed her portrait - not that he dare admit it. A ranch hand has no call to woo a well-born lady, especially when she’s being courted by the town’s finest gentleman. Yet there’s something in her mix of courage and compassion that won’t let Nick quit.

Publisher's Summary
A Montana Sky Series second chance, mature romance from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Debra Holland.
As a young woman, Rose Collier gave her heart to Andre Bellaire, her brother's best friend. In spite of their attraction and for reasons unknown to Rose, Andre distanced himself from her. As the years passed, she remained a spinster, making a monotonous, although worthwhile life, by working at the library and keeping house for her brother. Then Marty dies, leaving her practically destitute.
Andre Bellaire is living what he calls his third life - the first being his childhood and youth as part of a wealthy Creole family in New Orleans, his lonely middle years as a successful manufacturer in New York, and his later years as a philanthropist in the small town of Sweetwater Springs, Montana. In spite of a weak heart, he's savoring life, living with his newfound daughter and her family, while designing a library, a park, and helping to fund a new church. Then his comfortable routine is disrupted by a letter from his best friend Marty saying he’s dying and asking Andre to take care of his sister - the woman he once loved.
Andre offers Rose the job of librarian in Sweetwater Springs and a room in his home. Not wanting to deter Rose from accepting the job, he doesn’t relate the library is only land and architectural plans, and the physical structure has yet to be built.
Although Rose is shocked to find the job isn’t what she expected, the challenges of her new life prove stimulating. Still she guards her heart against Andre, not wanting the devastating hurt that would come from loving him and once again being rejected.
Even if Andre could change Rose’s mind about a relationship, he holds back. The former barriers to their love no longer matter. But new ones do - at least for him. Can love bloom again in the winter of their lives?
(The events in A Late-Blooming Rose are best understood if you've already read/listened to Glorious Montana Sky and Montana Sky Justice.)

Fantastic!
Debra Holland has magic in her head when she pens a story! It was wonderful to have two older people get a second chance in life. I enjoyed revisiting with the characters in Sweet Water Springs from her previous books. What a wonderful gift she has. Lara Asmundson has such a sweet voice and makes the story more interesting in her narration of it. Don’t miss this clean romance!

A love second chance romance
This is a lovely addition to the Montana Sky Series with a well-written plot along with the characters being well balanced, with great dialogue and a cheer for our hero and heroine and their happy ending. The story flowed quite nicely, with easy to know secondary characters. This is another lovely visit to Sweetwater Springs as the reader is able to find out how previous characters are doing. It's like going home for a visit to see what everyone has been up to. This book is a great addition to this series and I thoroughly loved this story about a second chance at love for two people who really deserved a happy ever after.

A Late-Blooming Rose by Debra Holland
A Late-Blooming Rose by Debra Holland
Montana Sky series book 9.5. Best read as part of the series.
Lovely and sweet historical romance. Touching and beautifully written.
Andre is 54 with heart problems, both literally and romantically. He walked away from Rose years ago with her best interests at heart, hoping she would love again. Now that her brother has died, Andre has offered Rose a job in Sweetwater Springs as the librarian even though the library has yet to be built. As a philanthropist, Andre is committed to the town and its residents even as he has to cleverly disguise his helping hand to avoid it being refused by pride. Rose is charmed again and again by Andre’s actions and soon loses her anger of his leaving her. The two renew their acquaintance setting up the library and it’s future contents and soon realize that their love is a gift that should be cherished.
I listened to the audible version in conjunction with an ecopy. The audio was narrated by Lana Asmundson who does many of this authors books. Her cadence is soothing and pleasing to the ear and the switch for male to female is subtle, yet clearly distinct. I love Lana’s rhythm and charming narrative.

A Late-Blooming Rose: A Montana Sky Series Novel
The older I get, the more I can appreciate stories about finding and accepting love later in life.
This story was so beautifully written. I really loved the sense of community.
My favorite part was the plan for the mail order brides in the library.
