Publisher's Summary

In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right. And he had better do it quickly, for the church bells will soon toll and all Lochdubh will be forced to face another dreary winter without the comforting embrace of Yuletide cheer.

Short & Sweet

Have never read this author before. Really liked the read. You left with a good feeling. While not very long, it did what it needed to do.

The Christmas Spirit

If you like an uplifting story of service, fellowship, and joy, then you should enjoy this little tale which counters the mendacious attitudes often found prevalent in entertainment and politics today.

Just fun

MC Beaton is tricky- simple stories are carried in beautiful little turns of phrase. This is a good hearted tale with a good hearted hero. Just enjoy it!

Cute Christmas Story

Classic Hamish and the town celebrate Christmas. Lots of Cheer to go around. Very light and feel good - no murders.

Caution- not actually book 1.5!

Fun short story for fans of Hamish Macbeth, but not actually book 1.5 as labeled- is from much later in series and will spoil some of the ongoing plot with Hamish and Priscilla!

Calvinists at Christmas :)

It's winter in Lochdubh, Scotland and Hamish Macbeth is doing his best to spread Christmas cheer despite the local Calvinists who protest the putting up of any Christmas trees or lights in the tiny village. This is THE BEST short listen! Funny, charming, and filled with the wit that only M.C. Beaton can come up with. The search for the Mrs. Gallagher's lost cat turns into the a mission that unites the entire village in the most unusual way. Hamish is such a softy at heart. This "feel good" story of a grumpy old woman and a lonely school girl at Christmas is the perfect Christmas tale. Don't miss it.

One of the most heartwarming Christmas stories

Hamish Macbeth delves into some of the local mysteries and finds a way, with his keen Highland intuition, to bring a satisfying resolution to them while at the same time weaving some Christmas magic into it all. Graeme Malcolm was perfect, as usual.

Audible ate my homework. Lost my review, ticked me off. Dang it. This is a work of art. Pure schmaltz. A ticket to the imagination of a gifted wrter. This would be a fine choice for a college lit class for aspriring writers and aspiring readers. Read it now and again in the
future. My first Beaton book. Thanks to audible and the free books program.

A Highland Christmas

Another good read in the Hamish Mac Beth series. The reader is great. This story reflects how most of us are feeling about Christmas today.
