Publisher's summary

Pride is all we have

The attack Shin foresaw has finally come to pass. Wielding a weapon with destructive force hitherto unseen, the Long-Range Artillery-type Legion unit rains unmitigated chaos over the battlefield. Both the Federacy's western front and the Gran Mur of the Republic crumble under the might of the monolithic railgun, capable of dealing catastrophic damage from hundreds of kilometers away.

With their backs against the wall, the Giadian military makes a controversial decision: A special strike force will charge into the heart of Legion territory, engage the Railgun type from close range, and destroy it. Shin and the Eighty-Six will spearhead the operation.

...But Shin has not been himself lately. Having defeated his brother's ghost and freed himself from the Republic, the Reaper finds himself without purpose. What reason does he have to go on living? For whose sake does he fight...?

Bring back Alejandro

In the past two volumes, Alejandro Saab did a better job than Stephen Fu, in my opinion.

Voice acting could be better

Did not care for the voice acting in vol.3.
Also quite a few times dialouge was repeated. Story was still good though.

Great story, Poor choice in VA

The story was amazing, but the switch in their male voice actor was disappointing, and It didn't feel right listening to the new guy. I'm not sure why they switched actors mid series, but it was definitely a let down.

love the story but...

I notice there were some errors during the read, especially towards the end when Mirize communicated with Shin during the final battle, wasn't sure if that was done on purpose, but he voiced her as a man's voice... and throughout the story, I couldn't tell the difference between Theo's, Kurena's, and Anju's voice. The positive is that Ernst's voice acting, I can picture the man which is perfect. I've always enjoyed Suzie Yeung's performance since voulme 1, and this time is no different, excellent work. I've enjoy Stephen Fu's work in his anime voice acting career, but somehow this was a minor let down and didn't bring a satisfaction I was expecting from the 86 story which I've enjoyed so far. Despite the minor complaints please continue the story I look forward for your next performance of 86 volume 4!

Beautiful, and felt more personal thanthe anime

Not in a bad way for either, but the book felt more personal due to showing internal monologue. Performance was good too.

unfortunate change in narrators

The story was fantastic as a sequel to the first two volumes, but Fu just didn't quite do it for me narrating this one. His voices for most characters were fine, but when it came to voicing Theo or the girls like Frederica and Kurena, it was kind of difficult to listen to. Yeung's performance was as good as usual.

The new male narrator is inconsistent

I don't know the circumstance of the reason to switch male narrators, but the new one is very inconsistent with character speaking voices and is constantly changing his narration voice tone, I found it very jarring and confusing at times, it would pull me out of the story often. He also mispronounced names several times throughout and seemed to have trouble differentiating the female characters, at one point his Anju had Kurena's tone. Other times he would narrate in a character's voice even if they weren't speaking. The female narrator's parts were excellent, if it were just her I'd give it 5 stars for performance.
