But he isn’t, and after a year of tryouts and near misses, he still hasn’t made it pro. So, he returns home to Columbus, Ohio, to figure out how to make his great gridiron dream come true. With a new job at a grocery store, Billy reconnects with his ex-girlfriend Ellen (Chlumsky), but generally it’s embarrassing to be back in town, seeing as he was the “star who was going places”, and now he’s seen as the “star who never went anywhere”. Looking for an opening to the end zone, Billy will tackle anything to make his dream come true. It’s a path that leads him to a billionaire tech bro starting a new professional football league that has more in common with professional wrestling, a health guru selling a cult-like fitness craze, and a hard-partying NFL quarterback who needs a real-life tackle dummy for his football video game. Will these lateral runs lead Billy to NFL stardom? A life of love with his ex? Or something totally unexpected from an elderly mentor named Mildred (Curtin) who he trains at the gym?

I LOVE YOU JOHN CENA!

Let me just start by saying I have never written a review and I have been using audible since 2014 so I encourage you read on. I am usually all about some very different genres of reading and I know next to nothing about football, up until last week I thought a touch down earned 7 points. I am usually not into the scripted audio, I just enjoy being able to listen to my books while I get things done. HOWEVER!, Despite all of these facts I gave this audio series a try because of the all star cast that have put together and did I mention I love John Cena, been crushing since Marine but that's besides the point. This cast put on a great show I am so proud of John Cena, so proud of Anna Chlumsky, Will you too just great job guys. I laughed, I gasped, I cried, I am just in aww. Billy gets hopeless sometimes but he is just not giving up and I am so psyched to see where life takes Billy. He is just such an endearing, confused soul that doesn't know what to do with himself now that he doesn't have a coach to order him through life. It was so fun listening as he grew and found himself. This series is not just for Football lovers guys it's wonderful. Give it a shot, I honestly didn't regret it. Can't wait to share this experience with my football loving mama.

Great story and AMAZING cast. This is marketed as a "series" rather than a traditional audiobook, but it listens like a book and is very entertaining. Cena kills is, and so does the rest of the cast. Highly recommended.

Laugh out loud funny

This is the most entertaining story I’ve listens to.
I think audible needs more stories like this.
John Cena is the perfect lead man for this story.
Though I’m not a football player, it’s an easy story to relate to as I know the challenges we face when we struggle to make our dreams come true.
I loved the social media jabs, loved how there was a gimmick to fall for and how eat it is to be dragged in.
Loved the end. I cried and I understood.

John Cena does a great job reading

I was surprised at how good a job John Cera did with his performance. I mean no disrespect, I just didn't think he'd done anything like this before, and he did a great job. The story is good too, funny.

Heartwarming story

A great cast with standout performances, John Cena is a real gem! This was a brilliant production, well worth listening to.

It's Good!

Whilst I spent a fair bit of time holding my head in my hands and wishing I could headbutt a wall in frustration with how John Cenas' character Billy dealt with certain situations, I feel this came across as a very pretty redeeming story about how though dreams may not always come true you can certainly achieve a new dream that is more attainable and, surprisingly, likely more satisfying than the one you'd pursued previously.

Anyway this was entertaining even for people who know nothing about American football (like me). Very funny and with a nice inspirational message

As a brit I know very little about American Football but this didn't stop me from really enjoying this story.

The basic story follows a Football Player on the fringes of being a player for the NFL. He struggles with one play he made in his past which has become legendary and his best days being behind him.

It is a sweet story of his struggle to find his new place in the world. Definitely worth a listen.

Great story and narration. John Cena was great! And the story was inspiring particularly for people who aren’t sure where they fit in and and what they want to do.

John Cena gives a great humane performance as the humble main character. Plenty of humour with great snl cast members like Heidi Gardner, Will Forte, Chris Redd, Alex Moffat. Fun and genuinely uplifting

what was that?!!

this is not an audiobook, its a movie. its not just any teenage rom-com or tried to be forcibly funny, it accelarated a solid story line. not too dramatic, but always kept the sharpness. i was always attentive, always felt crisp.


I have imagined that John Cena will voice like an Army person but the way he pulled off this fun young energetic character from the beginning to end, made me a life time fan of his voice acting.

each voice actor did amazing. i highly recommend this audiobook. this is a case when audiobooks levitate the experience of actually reading a book. good job team.
