Acerca de esta escucha

From a #1 New York Times bestselling author comes this thrilling story that shows what happens when a dead man's secrets fall into the hands of vigilante antihero - drawing him down a dangerous road.

Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors - and the items stolen from her family were never recovered.

Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead - not only on Patricia's kidnapping, but also on another FBI cold case - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Windsor Horne Lockwood III - or Win, as his few friends call him - doesn't know how his suitcase and his family's stolen painting ended up with a dead man. But his interest is piqued, especially when the FBI tells him that the man who kidnapped his cousin was also behind an act of domestic terrorism - and that the conspirators may still be at large. The two cases have baffled the FBI for decades, but Win has three things the FBI doesn't: a personal connection to the case; an ungodly fortune; and his own unique brand of justice.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Listeners will delight in [Steven] Weber's performance as he unravels this plot, launching new characters into the mix as Windsor takes on both these cases in his own way. Listeners will hear New York, Middle Eastern, and female voices young and old. All are Steven Weber, and all are sheer perfection." --AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner

"Coben never, ever lets you down." --Lee Child

"I gobbled [Win] in literally a couple of days.... It's fantastic." --Rachael Ray

It’s a WINner!!!!

As a long time fan on Harlan Coben I was overjoyed to see he he came out with this new book. I think I’ve either read or listened to every book he’s written with the exception of his famous Bolitar series (I’m not sure why!). There are many references to Myron Bolitar in this book, yet Coben does an excellent job providing background that I didn’t feel lost. I think I will have to get that series!
The publisher’s summary is quite accurate and gives a great overview of this story so I will not go into details about the book. The only thing I would end up doing is spoiling this for the next reader.
About the protagonist, Win. This is an intriguing character. He is so full of himself and his ease with the old money he grew up with. Yet he’s very likable and in some ways very much a person as opposed to a personality. He’s fleshed out and believable.
The mystery is very good and there are so many outcomes that I was unable to predict the correct one, which totally floored me!
Steven Weber’s narration is flawless.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Must read

I loved this book and learning more about Win. Just one criticism, too much about Duke University.

Wow!!

The narrator was FABULOUS — he really added a lot to an already interesting story. Was the story line perfect? No. Was it the it the next, ‘great American novel? No again, but it was a captivating, fun, twistie-turnie, never boring, thrill of a listen. Well done Mr. Coben & Mr. Weber!! 5*****/5*****

Coben Does it! Again!

I have lived Win since his first appearance with Myron. This book did not disappoint. I hope Coben writes more books with Win because he is unforgettable! Thanks Harlan!

Good Mystery

I truly enjoy Harlan Coben's writing and storyline. Win, the hero, is an interesting flawed character. His strengths are not what we are accustomed to nor. are they positive. The story is compelling. This is a psychological story with a lot of twists. There are lots of comments on human nature .

Excellent book read by a superior narrator.

Zero complaints. Great story and characters.
My first book of Coben’s, I’ll dig in deeper now.

Came to this title via Steven Weber’s narration of Going Bamboo by Anthony Bourdain, also an excellent book read beautifully.

Didn’t like this at first but it got much better!

At first, I didn’t like Win at all so I thought I’d give up on this book. But, I stuck with it, and, even though Win was still unlikeable in many ways, he grew on me. And, as the story continued, it became very interesting. All in all, I’m glad I stayed with it. The mysteries get solved over time with everything
coming together by the end! Don’t give up on this book. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Loved the story, not the protagonist

This is my first encounter with the character known as Win. It will likely be my last. He’s not likable at all. His arrogance is irritating, and his view of women distasteful.

Still, the story is, like all the Coben books, very interesting and the only thing that kept me listening.
