Wanderer of the Wasteland

By: Zane Grey

Narrated by: Michael Kramer

A western adventure becomes a journey of expiation and redemption.

Adam flees to the desert to save his life, and discovers the need to save his soul. In the searing heat of Death Valley, lonely land of prospectors and hermits, he confronts his baser instincts as he struggles to survive, striving to rise above them.

Wanderer of the Wasteland is Zane Grey’s most personal novel: a thinly veiled autobiography written in remarkably poetic language. Filled with colorful characters, and vibrant descriptions of the southwestern desert landscape he so loved, this is the story of one man’s internal battle to save his better self, or die trying.

Critic reviews

“Wanderer of the Wasteland is a thinly disguised autobiography.”

(Stephen J. May, author of Zane Grey, Romancing the West)

“Michael Kramer has a rough edge to his voice that evokes the Western setting of this Zane Grey audiobook. There’s a romantic quality to his narration that gives the descriptive passages of the landscape more power than they have in print…Listeners can hear his joy at the natural world of Death Valley and later his weariness upon seeing a desert oasis that turns out to be a mirage. Note: The dialogue of Native Americans is stereotyped, and offensive terms appear occasionally.”

Recommend

Well developed, well described
and vividly expressed as always by Zane Grey. I walked in the shoes of the protagonist and felt his emotions

Great listen and the best narrator

Great story of self growth, hardship and redemption. this book definitely grabs you! and Michael Kramer is possibly one of the greatest narrators alive.

amazing

such a great job.. the story really makes you look inward and to think about what are true trials

Love MICHAel Kramer; hated the book

At least this book is aptly named: about the only thing the author does is describe the desert. I thought I liked Zane Grey, but this is one of the only books I've quit in the middle -- and I've been listening to books on tape and Audible since 1992.
