A series of suspicious deaths in a retirement home draws Nameless into the confidence of a terrified former resident - and into the dark heart of a shocking conspiracy. In part five of the Nameless series, it’s time to hunt.

Oakshore Park is Michigan’s most exclusive assisted-living community. Presided over by two killer angels of mercy, it’s also THE go-to facility in assisted dying. For a cut, they make impatient heirs happy. Nameless must concoct a scheme just as cunning. But righteous retribution stirs disquiet in the avenger as light starts to shine on the black hole of his past. Should he welcome it or keep running?

From number one New York Times best-selling author Dean Koontz comes The Mercy of Snakes, part of Nameless, a riveting collection of short stories about a vigilante nomad, stripped of his memories and commissioned to kill. Follow him in each story, which can be listened to in a single sitting.

Listening to the stories in the Nameless series has become one of my guilty pleasures. I reserve these for those times that I need distraction from my day-to-day chores. And Dean Koontz does deliver that necessary distraction with each of these stories. The Mercy of Snakes, the fifth of the Nameless stories, was in my opinion the best of the stories so far. The subject of murder for hire of elderly people and the culprits and their lifestyles took the story to a grittier level than the previous stories. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Koontz has in store for Nameless in the sixth story. Once again Eduardo Ballerini does an excellent job bringing the characters and story to life.

The best of Nameless so far!

These Nameless books by Dean are an interesting approach. No long character development, just basically straight into the plot. The shorter format gives you a nice sense of completion of one story, and you are eager to launch into the next adventure.

Another small bite of Nameless, and satisfying

Another fine installment in the Nameless series, and a great satisfaction in how it ends.

This is probably my least favorite of the first season of the Nameless books. More on the backstory, less on the bad guys.
