To defeat an immortal evil, a young warrior must enter the land of the dead in the spellbinding conclusion to Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jeff Wheeler’s epic Grave Kingdom trilogy.

As kingdoms fall, brave young warrior Bingmei fights to fulfill a prophecy and save what’s left of the world from the coming darkness. Should she fail, Echion, the diabolical Dragon of Night, and his queen will hold sway over the next thousand years. With Echion comes his unstoppable army of dragons - powerful, vengeful, and under his control.

Accompanied by her loyal friend Quion, Bingmei journeys toward her last hope. It lies among the savage beasts just beyond the ancient Death Wall - an uninhabited realm from which no one has ever returned alive. Bingmei’s mission is to find the phoenix shrine and learn the Immortal Words that will allow her to harness eternal magic. With Echion and his legions in pursuit, Bingmei must choose her words wisely to break Echion’s spell and accept her fate.

Bingmei knows what she must do. She must join the ranks of the dead as well. For a fearless and selfless warrior, it’s the ultimate sacrifice. But Bingmei is about to discover that even in death, the greatest sacrifices are yet to come.

Critic reviews

“Zeller portrays Bingmei as vulnerable yet fearless. Her relationship with her traveling companion is sweet and fiercely protective on both their parts. These traits contrast with the wariness that is evident in Zeller’s tone when Bingmei is confronted with enemies and potential allies.” (AudioFile Magazine)

I liked this book best of the three. Found the series hard to get into and the constant fighting and running wasn't my favorite. I love Jeff Wheeler's books. This series being my least favorite. I've listened to the KingFountain series twice.

the best of three

I feel like for a trilogy, there is much more of the story to tell!!!

wonderful action packed writing.
themes of love, loyalty, sacrifice, and perseverance.

My favorite part of this book is the friendship between Bingmei and Quion.

as with all Jeff Wheeler books, I'm ready for the next!!
Narration is good. Kate Rudd would have been better.

end of the series?

This is the last book in a trilogy, but it ends (only in the epilogue) with a terrible beginning.
And I wish for another volume.

That being said, The Immortal Words is as exciting and full of surprises as the first two volumes. The cyclical nature and our understanding of the Dragon rule (force, cruelty and justice and the suffering of the dead) versus the compassion and forgiveness of the Phoenix rule becomes clear at last. Nature plays an even larger role in this novel, brought on by the rising power of the Phoenix who respects all life.

Familiar characters return (some from death or half-death to life. And our heroes, the Phoenix Chosen and her Prince come into power. But only one of the immortal dragons is dead, and at the end, she finds the one who will eventually (after hundreds of years, thousands, or decades only?) help her to regain her full power. We should have known who this would be from volume one.

As I said: an unfinished story that’s been going on for hundreds of thousands of years. I don’t suppose an unending number of novels could finish it.

The end? The pause? The cycle.

I wasn’t sure I would like this book and postponed listening and reading it for quite some time. I am so glad that I started the series and gave it a chance because I absolutely loved it!

Another gripping story

I really enjoy reading books by Jeff Wheeler. He manages to create characters that become part of one’s life. They are like family. I still think of the Muirwood series and feel still a kinship with all the characters. And, for me, the magic and the mystery and the other worlds are just the icing on the cake. They are easy to read and easy to follow, but still have me having an incredibly hard time finding a stopping place. I have read many of Jeff Wheeler’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I don’t know why it took me so long to start this series. Now I know… It’s not done! There must be more to this series. There has to be. And I have found nothing, so far, indicating when another book is going to come out. This has happened to me regarding two other series that I am currently a year and counting on one, and another year on the other. Very frustrating..

A Cliffhanger I Didn’t Expect
