Lily is a photojournalist in search of the “animal people” who supposedly haunt the city’s darkest slums. Hank is a slumdweller who knows the bad streets all too well. One night, in a brutal incident, their two lives collide - uptown Lily and downtown Hank, each with a quest and a role to play in the secret drama of the city’s oldest inhabitants.

For the animal people walk among us. Native Americans call them the First People, but they have never left, and they claim the city for their own.

Not only have Hank and Lily stumbled onto a secret, they’ve stumbled into a war. And in this battle for the city’s soul, nothing is quite as it appears.

This has been the best book to date from this wonderful author. It touches a part of your soul and leaves you smiling . I can’t say enough how this was exactly the book I needed to hear at this point of my life. It gives you a taste of hope that lingers on your tongue long after the story is over. Can’t say enough good things about this story!

This story offers hope, warmth, and wonder, especially in dark times. DeLint reminded me of how important it is to relish the magics all around me every day. There's so much I can't control or even feel like I can affect, but even the smallest acts of kindness can truly shift everything. Someplace to be Flying showed me that. Thank you!!

Heart warming and filled with hope

I must've read this book a dozen times and this year with winter closing in and hot tea and video game weather coming on, nothing is bettee than resting my eyes while someone tells me this story all over again.

Probably my favourite book of all time
