Publisher's summary

New romance and dangers abound in this companion to the crowd-pleasing Wicked Fox.

After the events of Wicked Fox, Somin is ready to help her friends pick up the pieces of their broken lives and heal. But Jihoon is still grieving the loss of his grandmother, and Miyoung is distant as she grieves over her mother's death and learns to live without her fox bead. The only one who seems ready to move forward is their not-so-favorite dokkaebi, Junu.

Somin and Junu didn't exactly hit it off when they first met. Somin thought he was an arrogant, self-serving conman. Junu was, at first, amused by her hostility toward him until he found himself inexplicably drawn to her. Somin couldn't deny the heat of their attraction. But as the two try to figure out what could be between them, they discover their troubles aren't over after all. The loss of Miyoung's fox bead has caused a tear between the world of the living and the world of the dead, and ghosts are suddenly flooding the streets of Seoul. The only way to repair the breach is to find the missing fox bead or for Miyoung to pay with her life. With few options remaining, Junu has an idea but it might require the ultimate sacrifice. In usual fashion, Somin may have a thing or two to say about that.

In Vicious Spirits, Kat Cho delivers another beguiling and addictive listen full of otherworldly dangers and romance.

Critic reviews

“When danger lurks from beyond the grave, supporting characters find themselves in the limelight in this enthralling sequel to Wicked Fox.... Once again Cho artfully balances Korean-inspired folktales, K-drama motifs, emotionally complex characters, and unpredictable plot twists.... This folktale fantasy will not disappoint.” (Kirkus)

“Steeped in Korean folklore, this is a strong sequel.... Alongside complex romantic relationships, this is also a story of friendship, family, found family, and what it means to stand up for others and to be able to depend upon others.” (School Library Journal)

Pretty Good

Vicious Spirits is exciting and amazing. It's filled with danger, adventure, choices, trust, friendship, romance and emotion. I enjoyed the Korean mythology story and this one was fun. While Wicked Fox focused on Miyoung and Jihoon, Vicious Spirits focused on Somin and Junu. That was fun. It was a little confusing with some of the names due to that some of them sounded so alike. In the end, it was a fun little series. I very much enjoyed Emily Woo Zeller, good narrator.

Great romance

I love Kat Cho’s characters. I just love their character arc and development and how well thought they all are. This book had my favorite characters of the two- Junu and Somin have a great fiery enemies to lovers plot line I was loving. Their kissing scenes are very very hot and I wanted them to just keep going and going. I had a great time with this one- very easy and light to read

Bit of a pacing issue, but still entertaining

If something terrible were coming to get me in 7 days, you wouldn't catch me taking no breaks.

So first, awesome VA. Stellar. But story wise, I found myself being like, "Woah, would that character do that? That doesn't seem like them," or "Hey, where are the cops? There we inconvenient cops in the last book. Sounds like a hell of a lot of blood, man," and asking, "If he/she knew about X, they why didn't they do Y a long time ago?"

I binged this in like 24 hours, so maybe I missed a few details. Read it yourself and decide what you think. It's entertaining, helped me kill a day in the car, and I think Kat Cho is a dang good writer, but I think the pacing due to the compressed timeline may have worked against her here because it made me feel like for the first half, the characters weren't treating the emergency like an emergency. Some characters had amazing depth and a handful of others that would surprise you were... puddles? I still love this series and recommend. This book had everything I love, but I think it could have used more polish/a picky editor.

Great VA

Great voice acting but the story was pretty horrible. I really enjoyed the first book but this just wasn't great.
