Interest-Based Ads Notice

Last updated: February 20, 2020

This policy describes the use of interest-based advertising related to your use of Audible services on Audible.com and in Audible mobile applications. For information on the use of interest-based advertising related to your use of Audible services on Amazon.com, Amazon devices, Amazon mobile applications and through other Amazon services, please refer to the Amazon.com Interest-Based Ads policy.

Audible does not display any advertisements on Audible.com or in its mobile application, but we do place interest-based advertisements on unaffiliated sites using information you make available to us when you interact with our site, content or services. Interest-based ads are sometimes referred to as personalized or targeted ads. In providing interest-based ads, we follow the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising developed by the Digital Advertising Alliance (a coalition of marketing, online advertising, and consumer advocacy organizations).

What sort of information do we use for our interest-based ads?

We do not use information, which on its own identifies you, such as name or e-mail address. Our interest-based ads are based on your interactions with our sites, content and services. This includes information from activities such as browsing or making purchases on Audible.com or interacting with the Audible mobile application.

As is common in the advertising industry, we use cookies, pixels, mobile advertising device identifiers and other technologies (collectively, “cookies”) from third party service providers we engage in order to tailor our advertisements to you based on your interests, which enable us to understand the effectiveness of the interest-based ads we show you by measuring what ads are clicked or viewed, and to provide you with more useful and relevant ads. For example, if we know that you previously clicked on an ad prompting you to download our mobile application or have already installed our mobile application, we can avoid serving you ads prompting you to do so again.

See our Privacy Notice for more information about the types of information that we gather.

For information on how to control and delete cookies (including third party cookies), please visit our Cookies Notice.

How do we work with third parties to show you interest-based ads?

We work with third parties, such as media agencies, publishers, social media networks, search engines, ad serving companies, and companies working on their behalf, to serve you interest based ads. In providing you interest-based ads we do not associate your interactions on unaffiliated sites with information which on its own identifies you, such as name or email address, and we do not provide any such information to the third parties we work with to serve our interest-based ads. Also, some third-parties may provide us pseudonymized information about you (such as the sites where you have been shown ads or demographic information) from offline and online sources that we may use to provide you more relevant and useful advertising.

Advertising Preferences

Audible offers you choices about receiving interest-based ads from us. You can choose not to receive interest-based ads from Audible on Amazon.com or through the Amazon ad network. You will still see ads but they will not be based on your interests. Please visit Amazon’s Advertising Preferences page to learn how to set your preferences.

Audible also serves interest-based ads through third party ad networks. You can generally opt out of receiving personalized ads from ad networks who are members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or who follow the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising by visiting the opt-out pages on the NAI website and DAA website.

Some of the ad networks and service providers we use offer the ability to opt-out of receiving interest-based ads. If you would like to opt-out of receiving interest-based advertisements from them, you can do so here:

Additionally, you can control interest-based advertising that uses your mobile device’s advertising identifier by going to the ‘Settings’ menu (or similar) on your mobile device.
