In his autobiography, Charles Finney goes into great detail about his ministry and the many revivals he spearheaded. Charles Grandison Finney (1792-1875) was a Presbyterian minister and a leader of the Second Great Awakening in the United States. He has been called “The Father of Modern Revivalism”. These powerful lectures deal with religious revival, how to encourage or promote it, and explaining how a revival experience may be maintained in the life of the Christian and in the life of the church. Charles Finney (1792-1875) was a Presbyterian preacher known for his revival services and extemporaneous preaching. He also dealt with social issues and was an abolitionist. In 1835, Finney was appointed as a professor of theology at Oberlin College; he became its president in 1851. Sermons on Gospel Themes is a collection of his sermons, including 24 delivered at Oberlin College between 1844 and 1861. They were taken down in shorthand while Finney preached them, and submitted to him for correction or addition.

I am to show, that God is a moral agent, i.e. that he possesses and exercises the powers of moral agency, intelligence, will, conscience and all those susceptibilities that lays mind open to the full force of motives.
