With “an ever-rising tone of dread that builds to a terrifying crescendo” (Marcus Kliewar, author of We Used to Live Here), this unputdownable horror novel follows a teenager searching for answers about the mysterious events and disappearances that plague the wilderness camp for troubled teens he was sent to, taking survival and discipline to a frightening extreme.

Thirteen-year-old Ben is sent to an isolated reform program for troubled teens by a juvenile court judge. But when he arrives at the camp, located on the edge of the vast wilderness of northwestern Montana, he immediately recognizes that there is something weird about the counselors. They’re too friendly and upbeat…yet Ben can tell there’s an undercurrent of menace.

As he gets to know the boys in his cabin, he soon discovers that they each have far more going for them than whatever crime landed them there. And each has a different critical skill, one that could help them unearth what is really going on in this place—and how to make it out alive. They are inching ever closer to the truth, but the hidden evil beneath the camp’s surface will make itself known in order to deter them. Brooding, clever, and sinister, Wilderness Reform will keep you “in a vice-grip until the very end” (Matt Wesolowski, author of the Six Stories series).

The book was easy to follow. It kept my attention throughout the whole book. Very suspenseful.

Suspenseful

What annoyed me the most was the narration. The narrator had 13/14 year old boys sounding like old men lol the story itself was just okay. It could have been better and I wish the author delved more into what exactly was living in that forest. It followed the kids more than the interesting parts if that makes sense. The ending was great though. You can never go wrong with some solid justice.

It was okay, just okay

This is a great story - luckily I hung in there despite wanting to scrap it within the first few chapters b/c it just went on & on & on & on........it felt like someone was reading a textbook to me at times. Since it had such great reviews I decided to plug along - just sped the narration up 1.2 (& sometimes 1.5!) to get things moving along. Glad I did. Really good story. I really liked the characters. (not a fan of New Orleans accents but it was worth it).

Verbose but ultimately a great book

I Loved every minute of this!!! One of the best new tales I’ve heard in a long time. It was good to get inside the head of a protagonist with real life problems and reality.

Fantastic story! Refreshing new horror tale! Bravo!

I struggle to get hooked when I first start a book, but this one pulled me in. Very well written and narrated. Highly recommend.

Excellent Story!

This book was excellent. Chilling and intriguing. I don’t agree with some of the reviews regarding the narrator. It seems like this is a difficult book to narrate and he does good job in my opinion.

Loved it!

Let me first start off by saying that horror is not typically something that I listen to. I'm trying to expand my horizons and branch out into different genres. I got this book during a 2 for 1 sale and figured I would give it a try. My main issues with this audiobook is the narration. The guy sounds very robotic. It got to be really hard to listen to and if I hadn't invested so much time listening to it, I would've stopped. He did a good job creating a couple of characters, but the majority of them were kind of clownish. Maybe that is just the way they were written but they were very annoying. The authors have another book I was interested in and it has different narration, so I may give it a try. I won't be getting any other books with this narrator though.

Was hoping for more than I got

I loved it all. The nature, the believability, depth of characters, truthful depiction of human nature. Best book I've enjoyed in at least a couple of years. I wish it went on and on. I was sad when it ended.

Original, realistic, thoughtful horror/survival/adventure story.

Matt & Harrison Query are enough to put you off of going out into remote places altogether. And I wouldn’t have it any other way! Their previous book, Old Country, scared the bejabbers out of me. Now that I look into their background, I see why their stories have such authenticity — they’re outdoorsmen and I can identify with the way they describe the experience. Highly recommend this book and Old Country. Cannot wait for the next one!

Engrossing story
