Resumen del Editor

Gerald Dunwoody is a wizard. Just not a particularly good one. He's blown up a factory, lost his job, and there's a chance that he's not really a Third Grade wizard after all. So it's off to New Ottosland to be the new Court Wizard for King Lional. It's a shame that King Lional isn't the vain, self-centered young man he appeared to be. With a princess in danger, a talking bird who can't stay out of trouble, and a kingdom to save, Gerald soon suspects that he might be out of his depth. And if he can't keep this job, how will he ever become the wizard he was destined to be?

You can't help but root for Gerald.

A nice bit of light entertainment, a likable underdog main character, and a good narrator. The series is just getting started so it may even improve. I'll be buying the next one to find out.

What made the experience of listening to The Accidental Sorcerer the most enjoyable?

It was easy to install and I could listen to it anywhere I went. I would recommend this book and service to anyone.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gerald the accidental hero.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Hoye’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not yet but I hope to soon.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

oops

What a lot of fun.

I enjoyed this book for a couple of reasons. First, it is a fun story, very well written. Second, the narrator was fantastic. He brought the characters to life. I never once wondered which character was talking. He made me laugh many times. He also made it easy for me to really become absorbed in the story. The author has a very nice writing style. I will be looking for more of her books. This was money very well spent.

Excellent yarn, very well read!

Excellent voice characterization, a good tale, with very interesting characters. Made my drive back and forth to work much more enjoyable for the last couple of weeks. Only down side is I now need to get the next book to find out what mischief Gerald gets into next.

be prepared to laugh till you cry

This old fashioned fantasy, which relies on archetypal characters rather than monsters, is a mastery of sly humor and a strong understanding of people. One could honestly say that its monsters are some of the characters whose humanity is not contestable.
The narration is superb. Mr. Hoye captures the characters and delivers the story without cracking up. I would never have managed to do so - I have laughed till I cried and the muscles in my face hurt.

The bird, Reg, kept this from failing.

Where does The Accidental Sorcerer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Last.

Which character – as performed by Stephen Hoye – was your favorite?

Reg

Any additional comments?

Dunnywood dwelled so much on defeatism, if only's and poor me's, that if it wouldn't have been for Reg, I couldn't have finished this book.

Original and Memorable

This story is set in a world where wizarding is a normal (though specialized) job. The main character Gerald becomes more 'real' to the reader as the plot progresses from a simple episode to a much more dramatic and involved ending. It is fun and interesting and clean enough for young listeners - but there is plenty of intellectual pondering for the older crowd. The characters are well written and fully fleshed out to become a memorable experience for you. I have listened to this twice - and the sequel is even better and more fun!
(P.S. I am a big Pratchett fan too, but this is apples and oranges. Take it on its own merits)

Lots of fun -- good narrator!

I've downloaded and listened to the first two books in the series, The Accidental Sorcerer and Witches Incorporated, and these are fun, light fantasy books. Set in a vaguely British early nineteenth century kind of world, I liked the characters and the plots. Surprisingly the author seems better at creating the men rather than the women, but I recommend the stories very much. Am downloading book 3 now.
