Resumen del Editor

Addie loves nothing more than curling up on the couch with her dog, Duck, and watching The Great British Baking Show with her mom. It's one of the few things that can help her relax when her OCD kicks into overdrive. She counts everything. All the time. She can't stop. Rituals and rhythms. It's exhausting.

When Fitz was diagnosed with schizophrenia, he named the voices in his head after famous country singers. He loves puns, foreign films, and T-shirts with witty sayings. The adolescent psychiatric ward at Seattle Regional Hospital isn't exactly the ideal place to meet your soul mate, but when Addie meets Fitz, they immediately connect over their shared love of words, appreciate each other's quick wit, and wish they could both make more sense of their lives.

Fitz is haunted by his past, and he's often not sure what's real. One memory weighs heavily on his mind - a tragic death he fears he may have caused - but he knows if he can just get to San Juan Island, everything will be okay. If not, he risks falling into a downward spiral that may keep him in the hospital indefinitely.

Escaping the hospital becomes the first step of a journey for Fitz and Addie as they learn about life and love, forgiveness and courage, and what's necessary to let go and what's worth waiting for.

more of a young adult novel

this was too "ya" for my taste, not being a teenager. I wearied quickly of hearing "whatever" every 2 minutes and of the teenage mentality in general. couldn't finish it.

astounding

having spent time in a place like disrobed in the book, and the feeling of need to get out, yet need to be with those who I connected with, this book reached me on a level I didn't expect. i love to complex simplicity of the relationship and the bold connection from two very different ppl that needed very much the same thing in the end. one to move forward only yo look back to who she needed, and with complete believe that time would not be a problem for what would be an unbreakable connection through different paths traveled side by side.
my wife encouraged me to better myself during my time in such a place yet leaned far from an emotional connection. during that time I learned of how much I needed her, not as support, but as the other part of me. only after me leaving and with a reformed sense on life and what it had to offer was she able to see the person I was meant to be.
though that's not what happened in the story, I feel a connection to the characters and in many way see similarities between my life and the life of the characters.

Thank you..

Reading this book was like looking in a mirror and seeing myself. I have suffered with anxiety, depression, OCD, and paranoia most of my life and relate so much to the main character. I even have some of the same ticks, the hand washing, and counting. It was nice to feel represented. This book didn’t try to downplay the struggling, or romanticize mental health struggles like so many I have read. I loved the story and the friendships that blossomed.

Thank you!

I have OCD ticks, anxiety, depression, ADHD and several other issues, this book it truly wonderful and has helped me not only feel less alone, but less scared. I feel for Addie as well for Fitz, they are truly like real people and it’s so neat to see them think through their problems how I do. Your words are lovely and descriptive, so detailed and deep. Thank you Spencer, you’ve truly nudged my world a little.

Great story

Loved this book. And the speaker was lovely. I don’t suffer from OCD but I am on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum and I related some of the things in the book. Definitely recommend!

Great narrator

Loved this narrator. Will look for other books read by her. The book was entertaining and kept me reading. Lots to think about in regards to mental health, I appreciated how real it was. I liked that it was clean, will let my 12-year-old daughter listen to this one.

Sweet and oddly inspiring

This was such a good story. I love Addy and Fitz so much. They have fantastic banter and their experiences are clearly meaningful to the story at large. As someone with a similar disorder to Addy (OCPD as opposed to OCD), I feel that the mental health aspect of this story was beautifully handled.

Such a heartwarming read

A wonderful story. The narrator did an amazing job telling the novel and the author successfully encompassed all the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful facets of mental illness.
