Resumen del Editor

"My name is Flint, but everyone in middle school calls me Squint because I'm losing my vision. I used to play football, but not anymore. I haven't had a friend in a long time. Thankfully, real friends can see the real you, even when you can't clearly see."

Flint loves to draw. In fact, he's furiously trying to finish his comic book, so he can be the youngest winner of the "Find a Comic Star" contest. He's also rushing to finish because he has keratoconus - an eye disease that could eventually make him blind.

McKell is the new girl at school and immediately hangs with the popular kids. Except McKell's not a fan of the way her friends treat this boy named Squint. He seems nice and really talented. He draws awesome pictures of superheroes. McKell wants to get to know him, but is it worth the risk? What if her friends catch her hanging with the kid who squints all the time?

McKell has a hidden talent of her own but doesn't share it for fear of being judged. Her terminally ill brother, Danny, challenges McKell to share her love of poetry and songwriting. Flint seems like someone she could trust. Someone who would never laugh at her. Someone who is as good and brave as the superhero in Flint's comic book named Squint.

Squint is the inspiring story of two new friends dealing with their own challenges, who learn to trust each other, believe in themselves, and begin to truly see what matters most.

Inspiring Middle Grade read!

Flint is in middle school and does not have the easiest of life, for starters he has problems with his eyes so he can hardly see. Thats how he got his nickname, Squint. Despite his vision problems, he happens to be a gifted artist and has been working on a comic book for the contest. Squint also lives with his grandparents with not much contact from his Mom and often times gets picked on at school. He is pretty used to life this way, but when a new girl starts paying attention to him his life gets much more interesting!
This story is so adorable and inspiring!
For anyone that has ever felt like they did not fit in, or afraid to put yourself out there, this is the perfect story. This book deals with death, illness, bullying and family dynamics.

all the wrong endings

this story could be based on a true story because it was a great fiction read and very believable and easy to follow. the narrator is for sure not 13. i actually know the narrator very well by his mucis and reliegious background and narrator resume and i basically try and listen to any title he narrates. his voice even though i already know the truth, did a superb job trying to math the ages of the characters anyway. when they were sad you were sad too. when they got excited so were you. you really felt a part of the story and wanted to step in and help or write ityour own way. the kid is a comic book illustrator and writer and his stories of course are based on the people and events in his won life. it was so cute that his comic character was his own name, but then the other characters had differnt names. and his new friend the girl knew who was her character in the comics and didnt at all get mad like i thought she would. i mean it was her suggestion to add a girl to story anyway so she sort of saw that coming.. the fact that he had a sickness with his eyes and the girl had a brother with a sickness to his wholle body made the story have that special "Aww" oment. only 7th graders, but you kind of wanted them to start having crushes on each other anyway. they never broached the subject, but stayed excellent friends and so everyone is happy with that who reads the book. when the boy wanted the brothers dead eye to be his new eye you really thought it brought the story together and blended well except that it turns out it wasnt his eye after all. when the eye started not to work you wanted him to have surgery againa nd then it would be the dead brothers' eye, but instead he just used eye drops and things got better. im not sure i believe eye drops are really answer in that situation, but im not a doctor and this story isnt non fiction. the girl balied on her audition and you didnt see that coming at all. a perfect ending though was that she did do the audition except it was with help from her dead brothers friend and the boy of course. and the boy worked super hard on his comic and you were really rooting for him to win the contest, but that didnt happen either. isntead he got a very encouraging letter of support from the contest people. i secretly thought i t was a pre printed letter they maybe send to anyone who enters and doesnt win, but we may never know because they didnt out that in the book either. so yeah nothing happened the way you wanted it to, but you kept reading and loving the book anyway. its a great fun entertaining read. i loved it and would for sure reccomend it for kids below age 12.

Extremely relatable

I personally love this book mostly because it’s relatable and funny I love that Flint (Squint) was using his nickname in his comic. (No spoilers from me LOL)

Full Hearts, Blurred eyes, Can’t lose!

Loved listening to this book with my 12 year old daughter! We laughed, we cried, we learned some life lessons, and highly recommend this story! We only wish Mickaela’s songs could exist IRL!

What a brilliant, funny, heartfelt book.
