Interesting action and cool planes

Unfortunately, parts of the story made no sense. Especially the way people reacted to some fairly plot critical situations. Not a failure but a little disappointing

Entertaining listen.

It’s an entertaining listen with intrigue but not disturbing violence. I don’t need graphic violence in my brain.

Thrilling, Intriguing

Luke Angel, a former Blackhawk pilot, has the life he has always wanted, complete with solid friends and a thriving business. Until his good friend goes missing in what is believed to be a suicide by plane. The adventure begins when Luke is faced with his ex-father-in-law and a local and shady businessman seeking to buy into his company.

The author, Nate Van Coops, creates a gripping, fast-paced mystery filled with vivid, immersive details. The dialogue is authentic and engaging flowing smoothly throughout. Each character is fully developed, seamlessly fitting into the narrative. He effectively blends into the narrative suspense, romance, and dynamic action.

The narrator, Scott Brick, provides a solid and exciting performance balancing the genres effectively and highlighting both the action and plot. Brick effectively slips into character, enhancing the action and creating an immersive and engaging experience. His delivery vividly highlights suspense and action.

Overall, this is an entertaining and engaging audiobook. The characters are authentic and the narrative is immersive.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Engaging listen

A seems far-fetched story… but in the end, I want to take flying (pilot) lessons. Would recommend for easy listening.

This story hits all the benchmarks.

Tropic Angel is a break from the typical “who done it”.
Nate has managed to include every element of good story telling and in just the right measure.
Several times I thought I had it figured out just to realize a twist.
I can’t wait to get the next Luke Angel adventure.

Jack Reacher with airplanes

I was familiar with the author's time travel series and was pleasantly surprised to learn he is a pilot and mechanic from a podcast. In the podcast he notes how avgeeks will cringe at most media presentations of aircraft operation and how he wanted to write something that wouldn't do that to his readers. And he delivers. While this story doesn't have any crazy dogfights or races (maybe on the next one?) all of the aviation specific aspects are great and didn't cause me to cringe (except for when an airplane gets damaged). The non-flying part of the story plays out like a Jack-Reacher story.

A descent guilty pleasure that fails to achieve greatness

The flying parts are good. I’ve piloted more than a couple of the airplanes in the book so I can say it was handled well. I find it interesting that the author believes that removing your personal airplane from a commercially owned company (non-government agency) like FlightAware is some serious sneaky squaral stuff. I can tell you its not. But the inclusion of FlightAware does add another layer of realism.

But, the story of a Florida playboy who divorced his wife because he has too many girls fighting for his attention. For some reason he feels the need to rescue his wife’s sisters daughter named Herpes? Hormuz? Herman? Harper? (It was Harper) by her sadistic parrents. She’s being held hostage because her dumber-then-a sign post parents who stole five million dollars from the most dangerous cartel in Mexico. Florida playboy also has a sidekick named Ava (Angel and Ava? Yeah, it didn't take long to come up with her name.) Ava is just a regular All-American Girl. She’s a super smart intelligence agent, special forces soldier, hottie, with a sacrificial heart of gold. You know, typical Disneyland trope of the dumb dude with the super hot sidekick who really should be the main character.
All of this would make for a fine story but it just feels a bit too shallow. It lacks the humor and self-awareness to be a fun guilty pleasure. But also lacks any compelling action, or suspense. The end result is a story feel as lifeless as the characters. In the end, It feels like Angel, Ava, and the ex-wife are just picking up their kid from daycare.

A very great read

A riveting story, non stop action. Couldn’t stop listening! Highly recommend if you’re an aviation and thriller enthusiast!

Fasten Your Seat Belts !

The best Aviation Triller in decades! All the "Right Stuff" in this book for sure. For starters, Scott Brick does one of his best narrations ever! Then we have the main character, Luke Angel, owner and Chief Pilot of Archangel Aviation. He has it all, lives in paradise, owns a bunch of cool airplanes, all the women are after him, (as are the Mexican Drug cartels), lives on a beautiful Catamaran on the Florida coast, and last but not least, has a Dog. Of course, life is not without some turbulence and storms for our Ace. So hold on, as author Nate Van Coops skillfully takes you on the ride of your life.
