Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

In Remember, neuroscientist and acclaimed novelist Lisa Genova delves into how memories are made and how we retrieve them. You'll learn whether forgotten memories are temporarily inaccessible or erased forever and why some memories are built to exist for only a few seconds (like a passcode) while others can last a lifetime (your wedding day). You'll come to appreciate the clear distinction between normal forgetting (where you parked your car) and forgetting due to Alzheimer's (that you own a car).

Resumen del Editor
#1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER • A hilarious, myth-busting survival guide that explains the weird and wonderful bodily functions that keep us alive—and how to make them work better for longer—from TikTok's favorite doctor, “the go-to expert for a generation” (The Telegraph)
“Dr. Karan Rajan reveals his health hacks that may save your life. . . . In a world of charlatans and social media snake-oil salesmen, he provides a voice of reason.”—Mail on Sunday
Your body is incredible, but it’s also out to destroy you. Your brain is like an early computer operating system, riddled with bad code, slow to load, and more likely to watch cat memes than go to sleep. You’d be a mess without your skeleton, but it can be a bony cage if you’re tortured by backaches, niggling neck pain, and knee joints that crumble under pressure. And your nose is a design disaster, getting blocked, springing leaks, and growing random tufts of hair.
You are the sum total of a lot of mistakes, trials, and errors, and you have to learn to live with them as best you can. That’s where this book comes in. Here’s everything you need to know to slow the inevitable decay that’s plagued your body from the moment of your birth.
You will:
• Enjoy the most epic and efficient dump of your existence
• Optimize brain efficiency by putting an end to multitasking
• Give your breath a sniff test to assess your health
• Start treating your eye socket dumplings with the respect they deserve
Here’s how to keep all your organs living in peaceful harmony so that you can enjoy a better, longer, healthier life.
Reseñas de la Crítica
“When you want to sort medical fact from medical fiction, Dr. Karan is your man. This is the only book that will have you laughing and learning in equal measure.”—Dr. Julie Smith

Historia
Russ Harris offers a surprising solution to low self-confidence, shyness, and insecurity: Rather than trying to "get over" our fears, he says, the secret is to form a new and wiser relationship with them. Paradoxically, it's only when we stop struggling against our fearfulness that we begin to find lasting freedom from it.

Microaggressions, challenging family relationships, toxic positivity, work and pandemic stress, gaslighting—these are just a few examples of what psychologist Dr. Meg Arroll calls “Tiny T” trauma. These tiny traumas can slowly build up inside of us, and if ignored for too long, can manifest in our lives as high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism, binge eating, insomnia, broken relationships, and a host of other problems.

These negative effects of aging, however, are not inevitable. Rather, they’re largely the result of environmental and lifestyle factors that, when properly addressed, can be reversed through a process called Autojuvenation™.

In Sanskrit, yoga means to “yoke.” To yoke mind and body, movement and breath, light and dark, the good and the bad. This larger idea of “yoke” is what Jessamyn Stanley calls the yoga of the everyday—a yoga that is not just about perfecting your downward dog but about applying the hard lessons learned on the mat to the even harder daily project of living. In a series of deeply honest, funny autobiographical essays, Jessamyn explores everything from imposter syndrome to cannabis to why it’s a full-time job loving yourself, all through the lens of yoke.

These are the diverse species of microbes that work together synergistically to communicate with each other and with every system in our bodies. You are your microbiome’s home, and it wants to take care of you, but first you have to protect it. In Gut Check, Dr. Steven Gundry reveals the emerging science proving that Hippocrates was right—all disease begins in the gut.

For Dr. Nerurkar, the common misperception of stress as “bad” needs reframing. Stress is a healthy biological phenomenon that helps us tackle life’s many demands. When it comes to cancer, conventional doctors are trained to treat their patients exclusively with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. These methods are grueling on the whole body - and they don't treat beyond the tumor or the cancer itself. The focus is on the disease, not the whole person - and because of this, the outcomes in conventional medicine can be bleak. But it doesn't have to be this way. Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy has developed a whole-person approach to treating cancer.

A fun guide to easy health hacks
Audio books are my favorite form of entertainment since I can wedge them into almost everything else I do so I don't indulge in much social media time. However, a couple years ago I stumbled on "utube shorts" (Audible doesn't like mention of external sites) and found this was the perfect transition for me to move from busy day to sleep mode. Dr. Karan Rajan quickly became a favorite because his medical/health related shorts are designed for the non-medically trained, but presented without condescension. His topics range from the non-life threatening, but painful and embarrassing (like hemorrhoids and ED), to what causes period pain and when is it indicative of bigger issues. He's never vulgar, but quite down-to-earth and often very funny. If you see him on social media, you will know exactly what you are getting with this book - same entertaining, comprehensible style, but expanded to book length and covering how to get the best from your physical existence in this world. I was entertained and educated - there's a win/win in my book!

Super informative and funny!
This is an excellent book! It touches on many aspects of how our bodies function complete with tips on how to make things better. The tips, for the most part are very simple to understand and act upon entire book is filled with humorous moments. it is very easy to read. If you follow this author on any social media, you’ll realize that the narration is actually done by the author. This makes it even better. Actually, I started reading the book on my Kindle and in my mind, I was reading it in his voice. I then switched over to the audio version and sure enough it is his voice! In my opinion, everyone should read/listen to this book at least once.

Title is misleading
This book should be called physiology 101 or the history of the body. It does not provide any information on what to really do to improve health. It is just going through all the structures of the body and how they operate, but the title makes it seem like the majority of the book is giving actionable advice on how to be healthier and that is not the case
