INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A GOOD MORNING AMERICA COVER TO COVER BOOK CLUB PICK

“Rich, dark, and intricately twisted, this enthralling whodunit mixes family saga with domestic noir to brilliantly chilling effect.” —Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author

“A haunting, atmospheric, stay-up-way-too-late read.” —Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of None of This Is True comes another page-turning look inside one family’s past as buried secrets threaten to come to light.

Be careful who you let in.

Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter she’s been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am.

She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in London’s fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libby’s life is about to change. But what she can’t possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as well—and she is on a collision course to meet them.

Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone.

In The Family Upstairs, the master of “bone-chilling suspense” (People) brings us the can’t-look-away story of three entangled families living in a house with the darkest of secrets.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Narrators Tamaryn Payne, Bea Holland, and Dominic Thornburn shine in Jewell's latest dark, twisted story about history, family, and sacrifice. When Libby turns 25, she receives a long awaited letter notifying her about her biological parents and about the inheritance of an abandoned mansion in London. At the same time we meet Lucy, a young, homeless woman with two children who is desperate to get back to London. Finally Henry's perspective is shared in retrospect as he reminisces about his own upbringing, providing compelling backstory. As the three stories collide, the narrators create a creepy and compelling atmosphere. Listeners will be totally caught up in the story the closer Lucy, Libby, and Henry get to the truth about what happened in that house."

Agatha Christie would be proud
"On the heels of her haunting thriller, Watching You, Lisa Jewell unveils another engrossing listen, set in London and France, about a mysterious trio of deaths in a once-posh townhouse and devastating family secrets that have lasting consequences. The Family Upstairs is told from the perspectives of three integral characters, performed brilliantly by Tamaryn Payne, Bea Holland, and Dom Thornburn, whose lives are connected in ways that are slowly unraveled. The shocking twists in this story had me gasping IRL more than once, and the themes—particularly the fragility and resilience of children who’ve experienced trauma, for better or worse—stayed with me for days after."

I recently discovered Lisa Jewell this year and I have powered through her novels one right after another. Her most recent one does not disappoint. Lots of twists and turns and just when you think you’ve got it figured out, she drops another bombshell. If you like Ruth Ware, BA Paris and of course Lisa Jewel, you will enjoy this novel.

Another great Lisa Jewell book!!!

This story was so good! I couldn't stop listening. The narrators all did a great job for the most part. The only complaint I have is that the narrator that did Lucy's ex-husband's part had a terrible American accent. It was an accent that was halfway between American and British. Also, there was a weird part where Libby says her 39 year old mother is middle-aged. I couldn't help but be irked by that as to me 39 is most definitely not middle-aged.

Gripping

NO SPOILERS! This one took a bit for me to get into but the excellent narrators definitely helped. This was a very interesting and extremely dark story. I definitely felt invested in learning what happened to this family.

I recommend this to anyone that appreciates a good and very dark mystery.

Very Dark Mystery, Worth the Listen

Good story that wouldn’t happen like that it real life. It was enjoyable until the end. I don’t like cliffhangers.

This is the kind of book that needs made into a movie yesterday. I'm a fan of Lisa Jewell and have read all of her books and this is a great read, Lisa Jewell is a very satisfying author, she does not leave you confused at the end of her books. The narrators were amazing and a pleasure to listen to. The reason I gave the story 4 stars though is I did not like the very end. I will not give any spoilers but the very last part of the book I found disappointing. But it was still worth the money/ credit because it was a great read. Lisa Jewell is still my favorite author and I eagerly look forward to more.

the best Lisa Jewell yet

I enjoyed the story overall. Once I got through the numerous characters who didn't really matter or add much to the story, so many different names cluttered the listen/read at times. But overall, I thought it was a captivating story. The performances were great.

Good story overall but a bit cluttered at times
