Two parents and their recently-bitten-werewolf daughter try to fit into a privileged New England society of magic aristocracy. But deadly terrors await them—ancient prophecies, remorseless magical trials, hidden conspiracies, and the PTA bake sale.

When Vivian's kindergartner, Aria, gets bitten by a werewolf, she is rapidly inducted into the hidden community of magical schools. Reeling from their sudden move, Vivian finds herself having to pick the right sacrificial dagger for Aria, keep stocked up on chew toys, and play PTA politics with sirens and chthonic nymphs and people who literally can set her hair on fire.

As Vivian careens from hellhounds in the school corridors to demons at the talent show, she races to keep up with all the arcane secrets of her new society—shops only accessible by magic portal, the brutal Trials to enter high school, and the eternal inferno that is the parents' WhatsApp group.

And looming over everything is a prophecy of doom that sounds suspiciously like it's about Aria. Vivian might be facing the end of days, just as soon as she can get her daughter dressed and out of the door . . .

This was a great story for adults and teens, one that can be listened to with older children.

A very fun story. As a parent with a small child it was very relatable. Sometimes too relatable.

Delightful

A somewhat unique quirky story line with characters that where reflected real normal people. The drama of small town New England with a long history was depicted perfectly. The werewolfs, magic and other non-normal things made the story more entertaining and funny. Maybe we will get more stories like this down the road.

An enjoyable quirky story

When I say it's not Dreadful, I mean both that this book isn't terrible, but it also isn't the delightful, imaginative, hilarious satire that is Rozakis' first book.

Dreadful starts off with a bang (literally), while Grimoire Grammar School PTA just kind of plods aimlessly while the author painstakingly world builds. Unfortunately, that world is the one of tedious minutiae that is grade school PTA.

At times, the book seems to want to be a family drama that happens to be set in a magical world. But the blurb promises a mystery or adventure that really doesn't start until about 4/5 of the way through the book, when we've spent about 8 hours listening to the protagonist overthink some of the world's lowest stakes.

Unlike the protagonist of Dreadful, whose character growth comes from continuous introspection, the main character of GGSPTA has her sense of self entirely shaped by external forces. Even when she finally stands up for herself, it's out of necessity rooted in maternal instinct.

Compared to the author’s first book, this just isn’t very fun or interesting.
