Resumen del Editor

When Angela Marchmont goes to Cornwall on doctor's orders she is looking forward to a nice rest and nothing more exciting than a little sea-bathing. But her plans for a quiet holiday are dashed when she is caught up in the hunt for a diamond necklace which, according to legend, has been hidden in the old smugglers' house at Poldarrow Point for over a century. Aided by the house's elderly owner, an irrepressible 12-year-old, and a handsome Scotland Yard detective, Angela soon finds herself embroiled in the most perplexing of mysteries. Who is the author of the anonymous letters? Why is someone breaking into the house at night? And is it really true that a notorious jewel thief is after the treasure too? Angela must use all her powers of deduction to solve the case and find the necklace - before someone else does.

A very dull book

This is really not the best of the series. Looks like the author does not know what else to think of. And the narrator is bad: pretentious and not expressive manners

Love this Series

Discovered Clara Benson recently but there was only one book in Audible. I contacted the author and she advised me there were more to come so I kept a lookout for her. Her books are very witty and clever and great fun to listen to. They make you feel like you have gone back to an elegant era. Angela Marchmount is a great character and I enjoyed the addition of her unusual ward Barbara. The mysteries are always complex and layered, but not far-fetched. The narrator does an excellent job with both male and female characters. She uses many different voices all very appropriate. I highly recommend these books

A serious waste of a credit.

I had liked the "Freddy," series so hoped that her other books would be as amusing. The best part was when the twelve year old got the ear boxing she deserved.

This mystery will definitely keep your interest. Make sure you're prepared for some unexpected surprises. Thoroughly enjoyable in every way. The narrator is excellent in her character voices and accents.

The Treasure at Poldarrow Point

I very much enjoyed this author's story. I very rarely give any book five stars, but this author can write. Her writing is transparent. I read so comfortably, I never once stopped and corrected construction or spelling or direction. Loved it!

Engaging story

So Clara Benson, an unknown author (to me, at least) wrote this series of charming little mystery-adventure stories in the 1920’s I think. Too bad she didn’t publish them at that time, because they have value.

This one is complicated—has a little something for everyone—with Angela Marchmont going to Cornwall to rest a bit after an illness, and doing anything but, as she learns the house she is staying in is close to an old smugglers house, and something of valuable supposed to still be there.

Although, as an adult, I find this a fun listen/read, I think back in the days (waaaaaay back, in the 1950’s) when I was reading Nancy Drew books, this series would have fit in with those to some extent, and I would have loved them then a lot. There is a 12 year old girl, Barbara, who plays a big role, and the writing is simple and clean enough that a young person could enjoy them. But don’t take that to think this isn’t action-packed and appropriate for adults, because it is. Recommend to anyone who enjoys the old classic mysteries.

Enjoyable Cozy Mystery

I liked this book even more than the previous titles in the Angela Marchmont Series. The story was fun and held my attention. It delivered exactly what I wanted for a "Cozy" English Mystery. I just discovered this series and plan to listen to all that are available on Audible.

Fun mystery with twists, turns, and hidden treasure!

(READ THE SERIES IN ORDER OR YOU WILL BE LOST!)
This is a light-hearted, entertaining mystery about hidden treasure, a jewel thief, and heaps of twists and turns! I listened to the whole thing in one day bc I just had to know what happened next!! The introductions of Barbara (Angela’s goddaughter) and Edgar Vallencourt (an infamous jewel thief) are important plot points with regards to the series as a whole AND they add a little spice and fun to this mystery! It’s a fast-paced page-turner and I HIGHLY recommend it!!

As always, my only comment on Klett’s narration is that she pronounces the ends of some words abnormally and it throws off the dialogue sometimes bc no one actually speaks with such militant diction and it also forces her to speak more slowly than normal in many places. The combination of those peccadilloes becomes distracting sometimes but, otherwise, the narration is great!

Barbara

The character Barbara really added to the story. I enjoyed the story. Now to the next one.

Oy vey.

Look, I like Angela and enjoy her as a character. Not as much as some of the other “cozy mystery” ladies but well enough. The story was interesting and held my attention for the most part and EK does an outstanding job as narrator as I’ve come to expect she will.

The introduction of a precocious but bratty God Daughter adds, initially anyway, a fun bit of unpredictability into Angela’s life. But, for the last two hours of the story at least, I came to the unfortunate conclusion that Barbara was simply too stupid and megalomaniacal to live and began hoping she’d have “an unfortunate accident” (preferably a long fall from a high cliff) so I could get on with the story.

I’m not proud of it but there it is. For the first time in my listening life I played a story at 2x speed (for reference my usual speed is 0.9). And even then I had to skip to the last two minutes.

As I said, oy vey.

Hope this has been helpful to you and enjoy your day.
