A MUST-READ

As someone who has spent most of her life searching endlessly for answers to her battle with weight, body image and emotional eating, I wish I had read Jessica Ortner’s book FIRST. While I had heard of tapping, I had always resisted it bc it seemed weird to me. I’m so happy I was able to put that aside and purchase this book, and I worry others may be missing out on Jessica’s incredible insights if they’re turned off by the tapping aspect of it. I cannot stress enough: EVEN IF YOU’RE UNFAMILIAR WITH OR UNSURE ABOUT TAPPING, this is the THE ONLY BOOK IVE FOUND THAT COVERS THE SEEMINGLY INFINITE/OVERWHELMING ARRAY OF FACTORS & EMOTIONS THAT COMBINE TO CREATE WEIGHT PROBLEMS UNIQUE TO WOMEN.

It was SUCH A RELIEF to start each new chapter and hear Jessica articulate YET ANOTHER set of questions, feelings and experiences I’ve had but never been able to (or heard others) put into words. Most books about mental & physical health focus on ONE explanation, solution or strategy in an attempt to give a simple, definitive answer to complex problems (which often backfires and leaves readers feeling MORE lost when we’re left to reconcile all the disjointed (or blatantly contradictory) explanations and advice out there. Ortner instead covers the ENTIRE gamut of the subtle, unseen cultural, evolutionary, physiological, psychological and spiritual factorsthat snowball into a complex body image/emotional eating problem that feels impossible to untangle. And while she does some “untangling” complete with citations of scientific data and expert interviews, she does something I’ve never seen another author do: she helps the reader let go of the need to fully understand and fix all of these problems, but instead, acknowledge them, process the self-blame and shame they’ve caused us, and then move on.

Moreover, her tone is wonderful: informative yet caring, assured yet humble, and profound yet humorous, as she weaves anecdotes from her and her students’ lives throughout the book where applicable. She makes the reader’s journey through the revelations in each chapter feel like you have a new best friend or therapist at your side, explaining the detective work she has done to help you feel better. Even her voice is pleasant, and I’m glad I opted for the audio version of this book so she can guide me thru the tapping exercises in her soothing way.

Thank you Jessica for writing a book that helps women to addresses tough, often invisible issues so we can release them, heal and be free.

Therapy for yourself to do by yourself.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Most women are alike when it comes to weight and body image; we all have similar stories and struggles. This book goes through different examples of how situations from our past and present effect our future. From there you'll learn how to desensitize, reframe, and move forward. All women should read this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would do this if the tapping sections were removed. The information in this book is very good and the examples used make it very easy to understand. I could apply so many things to my life.

Any additional comments?

One thing I would change about this audiobook is to front load all the information first and save the tapping for the end. I wanted to get all information before I started tapping. This way I could have guided tapping areas that I need to work on at my finger tips. I think the way audible is set up it would be impossible to find certain sections of the book.

Like listening to your beloved best friend

Would you consider the audio edition of The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence to be better than the print version?

Well, not in my case as I use to come back and read again certain pieces of the text, I use to highlight parts and put bookmarks and with the audio is tremendously difficult. I wish I knew the whispersync service before buying also the kindle version. Yes, I've bought this book twice as as I also like to "read" books while I'm driving by using the audiobook.

What other book might you compare The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence to and why?

I do not know of other books on the subject. I simply bought this one as I loved Jessica's speeches in the World Tapping Summit and recently I started to have some emotional eating issues so I guessed that she would be of help also in this subject.

What about Jessica Ortner’s performance did you like?

The calmness of her voice, the warm and comforting tone of her voice, the confidence, sometimes fun listening peaks and also the feeling you have that she's not lecturing you but speaking from the very bottom of her soul to you.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well, no, it was overall calming, soothing and illuminating. I felt not crazy but understood a lot of things of myself, and not alone in the world with this problem.

I feel it is missing a pdf. I am sure the book has the scripts and I am sure you can go on the site and download them, but I think it should be a pdf download here as support.
