Hurtling from present day New York to Victorian London, The Sherlockian weaves the history of Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle into an inspired and entertaining double mystery that proves to be anything but "elementary."

In December 1893, Sherlock Holmes-adoring Londoners eagerly opened their Strand magazines, anticipating the detective's next adventure, only to find the unthinkable: his creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, had killed their hero off. London spiraled into mourning-crowds sported black armbands in grief-and railed against Conan Doyle as his assassin.

Then in 1901, just as abruptly as Conan Doyle had "murdered" Holmes in "The Final Problem," he resurrected him. Though the writer kept detailed diaries of his days and work, Conan Doyle never explained this sudden change of heart. After his death, one of his journals from the interim period was discovered to be missing, and in the decades since, has never been found.... Or has it?

When literary researcher Harold White is inducted into the preeminent Sherlock Holmes enthusiast society, The Baker Street Irregulars, he never imagines he's about to be thrust onto the hunt for the holy grail of Holmes-ophiles: the missing diary. But when the world's leading Doylean scholar is found murdered in his hotel room, it is Harold-using wisdom and methods gleaned from countless detective stories-who takes up the search, both for the diary and for the killer.

This will be a treat for "Sherlockians". If you listen long enough your favorite mystery writer, Holmesian expert or celebrity will be mentioned or be part of the plot. The narrator does a good job with the various voices required. Worth the time and money.

Just as if I was reading a Holmes novel. Exceptionaly written and performed. Though I feel his character voices could use just a tad bit of work, the interweaving plots of the author and strong narrating ability of the reader helps them to not be too distracting. Truly, among the very best of historical fiction.

Masterful! I was completely enthralled.

I have always been a fan of detective mysteries in general and Sherlock Holmes n particular. Mr Moore combined a modern mystery in the form of the missing diary of Arthur Conan Doyle with the early 20th happenings of Doyle and his own Watson, Bram Stoker. I enjoyed it in both time periods and the mysteries of both as well.

Great historical fiction

it wasn't what I was expecting when I first started to listen to it, but that's not a bad thing. I DID finish it, though it took longer than most books did. It was less about Sherlock and more about Arthur Conan Doyle. if you're thinking about getting it, I say you might as well give it a go!

not what I expected
