Compelling Story

The only thing I thought was inconsistent to the HEA was how everyone made dismissing excuses for hero's despicably idiotic first wife. It created the idea that the hero's love is an idolizing one for his first wife that can never be overcome or fade enough to make room to love his second wife. And her room was still totally intact?

Yet the interactive dance of intimacy & affection landed in a natural & realistic way that bonded them very well with romance. Heroine was a saint though, and maybe too full of logic - all despite the hero's squirrelly behavior throughout. I thought hero could have been more heroic, though he redeemed himself well in the end.

There were so many secrets in hero's family, however, and his mother's secret 10 min before the end was surprising & perplexing a bit to have it thrown in like a dud-grenade that went nowhere specific and still explained a few loose ends with deadly aim. That family played such a huge role in this book's HEA was great. Loneliness, death, & betrayal are combatted by a family who loves you, accepts you, and makes an effort to be with you. And romantic love, as well as familial love wins. Nice themes.

This book is exquisite.

This book is so wonderful. I cannot say enough about it. Emma Orchard is an exceptional writer. Like I cannot get enough of her writing. Both the FMC and MMC are just perfect. FMC is strong yet vulnerable and shows such growth. MMC is caring, emotional and loyal. Together they make such a beautiful couple. This novel is not so much plot driven as it is character driven, and it has many many steamy scenes, so if you don't enjoy that this may not be for you. Lastly, the narration is also very good. I listened to the whole thing practically in a day.
