We all speak to ourselves on a daily basis. Whether it’s out loud or an internal (or infernal) commentary, we all practice self-talk, and how we speak to ourselves can have a significant effect on our emotions and subsequent actions.

Some people’s self-talk is mostly about the future while, for others, it’s an internal dialogue about the past. Some self-talk is positive and upbeat, while other self-talk is harsh, critical, or defeatist. Self-talk can focus on other people, but, more often than not, it is about ourselves - and is often negative.

If you listen carefully, you’ll notice that your inner conversation reflects thoughts and emotions. Self-talk isn’t random. It exhibits patterns that repeat themselves. And everyone has their own characteristic self-talk that is uniquely theirs.

In The Science of Self Talk, mindfulness expert Ian Tuhovsky explains how we can rewrite the script when it comes to our internal communication. Through a series of simple exercises for use in daily life, you can understand your own self-talk in order to change the conversation.

The best book ever. Knowledgeable straight forward and very easy to understand

This book is incredible...I started feeling better just by listening to the content...I keep listening the book several times after the first day even repeated the characters. I would recommend purchasing this book!!! Best ever. Straight forward and simple ideas.

A Great Guide

This is a great guide for those looking to change their inner musings. I've always thought of myself as a fairly positive person but after listening to this book and doing some of the exercises I realized that I could do a lot better. The author does an excellent job trying to cover the main points of being aware of one's self talk and helping to give people a starting point. Of course there's always more that can be said and done to improve but this book gives a great place to start. I enjoyed listening to it and learned a bit more about myself in the process. The narration was well done and helped to keep the listener engaged.

excellent book

Incredible book, short and to the point. I was impressed with how powerful a book this was for the time frame. Easily one of my favorite books for 2021.

Insightful and Practical

I have had a hard time with positive self talk in the last 12 years. Ian presents practical tools that everyone can use to create more positive self talk. The book was insightful and I feel like I can follow his suggestions.

A Complete Masterpiece

I loved this book, and I will recommend it to everyone. I will listen to more from Ian! It was a quick listen and definitely repeatedable. Thank you for putting this great philosophy into well spoken words.

Very helpful

I really enjoyed the straightforward wisdom in this book and the scientific examples to back it up. I know someone who struggles with depression and we listened to it together. Thank you.

Great Resource

I was dazzled with this book. I delighted in how the writer composed this book. He made it simple to tune in. I acknowledged how he composed the instances of how to accomplish the outcomes you expected to dispose of negative reasoning. There are various tips which I will be attempting soon. He caused the cycle to appear to be congenial and left me feeling I could succeed! I am happy that I had the option to tune in to this book.
