Resumen del Editor

Amity Whitford dared to stake her own claim on the endless plains of Western Kansas. She built her homestead, Dove's Nest, with her bare hands. But the ravages of the sun and drying winds took their toll.

The Plainswoman (Unabridged)

I enjoy a good romantic historial novel. I have seldom been this bored with an audiobook. I had no sympathy for the heroine and I guessed the ending by about the first or second chapter. It took an unbelievable amount of time for her to smarten up. This was not an inexpensive purchase. I would recommend not wasting money on it.

Vanity Published?

I picked up the audio version of this book, and found the story dull. The heroine, Amity, has amnesia and has been forced to leave her employer after an accident involving one of the children in her care. We are not told the details of this event which was very unsatisfying. Destitute, penniless she is forced to eat garbage and to work as a servant and laundress until she finally lands a job making rugs. Eventually, she ends up out west where she buys acres of land and lives with her handyman.

I like historicals.. .But the execution of the storyline left me cold. Amity seemed to be quite a modern heroine. Her desire to go it alone unrealistic. I didn't get any historical flavor from the story. Parts that were described were boring... Parts that she skipped over writing (such as her journey west, and her first nights on the homestead) are skipped. At times I felt I was being told the story rather than shown the story.

I found myself bored after about 45 minutes of listening. Although I am intrigued about what happened to Amity and why she lost her job, I found myself not caring enough about the character or buying into the authenticity of the setting to care.
