Incredible

Story is incredible, audio book narrator takes it to a whole other level. I think she’s one of the most skilled voice actors I’ve heard in audio books.

Between this and The Priory of the Orange Tree, I see hope for a whole new future of fantasy, and of sapphic narratives. There is quality and thoughtfulness and magic in the writing that I’ve just not seen in stories that are epic and well-crafted and happen to feature queer women - I feel like we’re in a new era.
I can’t imagine if this had existed when I was younger.

This book somehow outdoes the first in the series on every level. I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait for the next one to come out.

Simply Captivating

Amazing second book!

Loved this second instillation in the series. It picks up much faster, as most of the world building and set up was done in book 1. The book has a good balance of action sequences and advancing the plot with a sprinkle of romance and star crossed lover angst. A lot of great character development too, with a wonderfully imagined magic system and setting. Overall really enjoyable listen.

Excellent story, performed beautifully. Compelling characters with depth and rich prose. Didn’t need my heart anyway.

If you’re looking for sweeping fantasy with heart wrenching sapphic themes this is it. I can’t wait to read the next one. The plot twists are unbelievable!
