A girl with nothing. A guy with everything to lose and one offer that changes everything.

Savannah Barnett thinks she's mastered the art of invisibility. Walking fast, talking softly, and running out of our study classes so fast that it should be obvious for guys like me to keep our distance.

Spoiler Alert: I've been staring like a lovesick idiot since day one.

I should focus on hockey. I've got a pro contract on the line and a team that needs me, but I can't stop watching her. Can't stop wanting her. And when I find out she's being taken advantage of? Game over.

She says she doesn't need saving, but I still offer her a way out... with my last name. A fake marriage. A real mess. And a hundred reasons why I should stay away, but I'm done pretending.

This isn't just a love story. It's a fight. And I don't lose.

The Obvious Check is a hockey romance and is intended for mature listeners. Narrated in duet style.

the first book in this series was much sweeter and lower on the angst. this one was much darker.

tw:
▪︎ human trafficking
▪︎ illegal fighting
▪︎ foster care
▪︎ homelessness
▪︎ neglect

this was a good story. there were points that were incorrect if looking at it from a realistic point of view. such as the foster care system. suspend your disbelief for this story though.

the narrators were amazing. incredible loved them. they did such a great job with this story. im also glad they were the same ones from the first book and that it was a duet narration.

Savannah is a tough 19 year old woman who is tricked into human trafficking. she is just trying to go to college and get her own place so she can adopt her younger sister out of the foster care system. human garbage takes advantage of her and her desires and use her for their financial benefits. Cade is a hockey player at Covey U who is obsessed with Savannah. they have a class together and are in a study group together. he has also been used by the same man, Luke, as an illegal fighter, but he was able to get away from the man and out of the human trafficking. he sees Savannah in the club Luke owns and runs his trafficking out of and decides he wants to help her. he does everything he can to gain her trust and build her confidence. they fall in love quickly. however, she has always had a crush on him and same for him towards her. he tries to help make her dreams come true and save her from her horrible circumstances while also protecting himself and those he loves. in the process.

this is a longer book because a lot happens. it isn't fluffy. it isn't the darkest either but it is darker than the first book. I love the jump forward at the end and I can't wait for future books with the rest of these guys on this team.

overall, great book. worth the credit.

much darker than 1st book. spoilers
