A very good, short listen

This book is short but gives a very good account of someone’s personal journey as a homebuyer. What I liked the most is that the author’s journey is recent and relatable. The fact that her home-buying process was relatively new when she wrote the book makes the book feel realistic and authentic. This is not an in-depth discussion of the steps to take to buy a home rather it’s a what-to-expect type of account as a single, millennial homebuyer. This book is useful to those of us who do not have anyone to guide us through the home buying process.

Basic book with a trendy catchphrase to stand out

I had to return this book to audible to receive my credit back for something else. In the preview, she lures you in with how she closed on her home with a small amount of money and says “More on that later...” then, at the later, she legit just says she googled “down payment assistance”. THAT was the big climax.

This book provides basic 1-2-3 brochure-type information to those who know absolutely nothing about purchasing a house but provides no real depth into researching and the types of loans, acceptable credit to get a decent or amazing mortgage or what you should do to get there, what happened AFTER she googled “down payment assistance” and the steps she took and/or mistook to help figure out that process and more of the good, the bad and ugly of the road to getting the keys.

The author has an “I’m better than you” tone to her voice throughout the book, and the fact that she uses the term “millennial” in her book title, targeting that specific audience often stereotyped as being stupid, only annoyed me even more at how useless most of the book was for an actual potential millennial homeowner. The first 3 or 4 chapters of this book is her pretty much her repeating how if you want to buy a home, you can’t really go out for drinks with friends and basically have to be a social Monk in order to be an adult, seemingly trying to talk you out of it. If you even consider this book, you’re interested in buying a home, not being talked down to, assumed to be irresponsible, and given less information that a first google search. Pass.
