Resumen del Editor

The First Book in a New Series Set 73 Years After The Maze Runner

Seventy-three years after the events of THE DEATH CURE, when Thomas and other immunes were sent to an island to survive the Flare-triggered apocalypse, their descendants have thrived. Sadina, Isaac, and Jackie all learned about the unkind history of the Gladers from The Book of Newt and tall tales from Old Man Frypan, but when a rusty old boat shows up one day with a woman bearing dark news of the mainland—everything changes. The group and their islander friends are forced to embark back to civilization where they find Cranks have evolved into a more violent, intelligent version of themselves. They are hunted by the Godhead, the Remnant Nation, and scientists with secret agendas. When they cross paths with an orphan named Minho from the Remnant Nation, the dangers become real and they don't know who they can trust. The islanders will have to survive long enough to figure out why they are being targeted, who is friend or foe, and what the Godhead has planned for the future of humanity.

Meh

The story is quite meh and all over the place. The book’s predecessors were a lot better.

So much potential…

Love the series, but this goes a whole new direction and I’m excited to see it’s trajectory. The only issue is that I feel like the whole book was a really drawn out opening scene where characters get introduced and right when you get to finally know most of them, it ends. It just takes a while because there are so many. Will I keep reading the series? Absolutely! The brilliance of story telling is still as rich as it has always been and it’s also awesome to see a continued story in the same “universe”.

There is potential I guess

I listened to the book, but honestly it was hard to finish. James dashner is one of my favorite authors but I did not particularly enjoy this book. It seems like he is experimenting with a new writing style and it is just not working out. There was so much back and forth that honestly i was completely lost until the very end. Of course I am going to listen to all the new books in this series when they come out, and I hope it ties together the loose ends and fixes what is wrong with this book. I may have to listen a second time to really understand before listening to the second book when it comes out. I think he did a good job, just did it the wrong way

The least interesting book of the series.

Nothing interesting happens in this book until the epilogue. Likely won't read any more.

Worst book in the series

I have loved the previous Maze Runner books. It this one was not good. It jumps around and is hard to follow. It’s also pretty boring. I will not be reading the future books in this series.

Glad to know what happened in this worlds future

The story was kind of confusing and a little bit all the place. Not my favorite.

Must Have Missed Somethiing

First I want to say I would have like this book much more if they didnt have all the real bad words instead of the made up bad words from the previous books. it just threw me off hearing the real words in whats supposed to be a book for kids 9-16 years old. it was a lot. not just a few.
Anyway I'm a little confused how ming ho became an orphan. Why isnt he as old as fry pan. i swear they are both characters from the original maze runner series with thomas and such. fry pan is 90. this is some 70 plus years later. thomas is dead!? he was immune. so did he die of old age because he sure as you know what didnt die of the flare. fry pan was older then why isnt he also dead too? i mean 90 is pretty old. you would pretty much think after 70 plus years everyone from the original maxe runner series would be dead. so how is ming ho just a young man like this new issac character is. we know he is young because we are calling him an orphan(still dont know why or how that happened) and also when he is with roxy they consider her his grandmother so he must be pretty young. im thinking she is at least 60 or more. also how is ming ho alive? was he immune? i cant remember who from the series was listed as immune and who had the flare.
also the many bad guy/good guy groups are looking for descendants of newt and sonja(the names wicked gave them). why? there is a book of newt from way back when. is newt dead? was he and his sister immune like thomas? how did they die and why would they not still be alive? i hate that the people who are supposed to be immune are dead simply because its been 70 years and theyd be dead by now anyway. so basically it just means that the series starts all over with all new characters. so its a little stupid and pointless to even try to include fry pan or ming ho or a past tense newt. the math just doesnt add up and this whole book just drove me crazy.
also it seems like every time we meet someone they die. were they good or were they bad. example clitter the woman on the boat. so whats the point in trusting anything that happens or anyone we learn to trust in the book. and what is this deal with the godhead. i felt like i was learning about a cult and was supposed t know all about it already from a previous book that somehow i didnt know existed and completely missed out on reading in the series. my mind went in all directions. i couldnt figure them out. good bad? what was their purpose? grief walker sounded a lot grivers from the previous books. am i the only one who noticed that except grief walkers are all human. but i dont really understand what they are either.
in short i guess this book just really irked me and i dont really understand a lot of it. probablly the only parts i did like reading about were the ming ho inserts and the little tid bits from the so called book of newt. i would reccomend reading the series to anyone who asks but maybe just dont need to read this one.

Why all the hate

I’m not sure why this book gets so much hate. It is nothing like the original series, just set in the universe. I enjoyed the story. The only think I didn’t really like was the switching POVs but I got used to it. It does give insight and a story line that you wouldn’t get with a single POV.

Pretty solid

Read a lot of negative reviews on this book but went for it anyway. I’m a big maze runner fan so I felt like I had to get it. Overall I really did enjoy it. Can’t find a lot a didn’t like about it, and it’s setting up another trilogy or series quite well. It’s fun to listen to characters talk about Thomas, newt and the gang like they’re mythical legends. Those moments and details were very cool. I hope we get more moments like those in the next books. Personally I love Dashners writing style, this book feels like your listening to another maze runner book. Which I love. And mark the narrator outdid himself again on his one. If ur a fan of Dashner and the maze runner books, just go for it. It’s a solid book!
