A spicy, Fae Sleeping Beauty retelling with a male version of Maleficent, a dying realm, and intriguing twists on the old tale.

When Malec, the Void King, attacks Princess Dawn's carriage, her Fae bodyguard Aura switches places with her. Glamoured as a human, Aura must fool Malec into thinking she's the Princess he cursed twenty-five years ago. Relentless and powerful, but with a vulnerable side he hides from others, Malec begins to crave Aura's respect as much as he craves her body.

I’m a huge Maleficent fan to begin with, so when I saw a book that gender-flips the story, where the dark “Maleficent” fae is a dark fae king who curses the princess and now comes to collect… but oops, he kidnaps the bodyguard instead — take all my money!! If that premise alone wasn’t enough to keep me hooked, the twists and turns in this story had me hitting next on the player until the wee hours of the morning. I literally listened to the whole book in one sitting! Yes, all 10.5 hours! And can we talk about the stunning cover art? Horns, dark hair, wings that drag the ground, and for some reason he never manages to find a shirt (which honestly makes sense. Wings and shirts probably don’t mix, and shirtless is definitely the better option). Just… yes.

This is hands down my favorite book now. I deeply related to the characters, especially their struggles with feeling like they’re never enough for everyone. The emotional ride of this book? I was totally there for it. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing everything to life. The previous book (The Sea Witch)used to be my favorite, but this one has officially taken the crown. I absolutely love Kenney's writing style, her fresh takes on the classic fairy tales I grew up with, and the spice? Always perfectly done. Definitely an excellent listen! I highly recommend!!
