Unexpected Desire

Thank you Constance Gillam for writing one of the most delightful and sexiest stories I have read in quite some time. The novel held unexpected wit coupled with authentic desire set with just that right touch of je ne sais quoi that kept the fire burning. The love was truly uncontrived and depicted a realistic possibilities that left me wanting more. This was a surprisingly fun book to not put down and did not disappoint. Valentine gift for my daughters, nieces and friends. Please write another book soon, I'd love to see it as a film. I am a definite fan of your future tomes, currently reading your LAKOTA SERIES.

I loved the story line although I knew how it would end. It was well written and there were some vey passionate scenes that I felt comfortable hearing . The reader was excellent andI loved how she made the characters come to life…

Great Read!

This was a funny and great book to listen to over and over again. I loved the different voices the narrator used she did an amazing job! I like how the author didn’t focus on the couple’s race it was just by coincidence they were an interracial couple. Overall great read!

Great Story

This was a really great story that I enjoyed listening to. The story line was really well planned out. The conflict between the two protagonists was serious but that never deterred them from pursuing their relationship. And I really like that about them. They weren’t letting what other people thought effect their relationship.

This was meh. Not in the reread category but I finished. Heroine was a little flat

Promising idea, mediocre delivery

I think the word predictable sums up this novel perfectly. Maybe that's intentional, I know there are plenty of readers out there who want a formulaic story with a HEA that you can guess from the first few words. So if that's you, if you're a fan of Hallmark movies at Christmas and a low level of tension, this will totally be your jam. I don't say that to be sarcastic, either. I totally understand the appeal, even if it's not to my taste. Real life can be complicated enough, and not everyone wants that in their escapism. If that's true for you, then buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

But if you're an enemies-to-lovers junkie who lives for the push/pull of attraction and conflict, who loves the chase just a bit more than the HEA, and who wants tension that requires more than a butter knife to cut, you should skip this. The stakes are very low for the protags and the 'obstacle' in the way is given a fairly soft treatment. The characters are all pretty cookie cutter and lack sass, spunk, fire, or passion, even though you can tell all of that is intended. And the plot plods along hitting all the expected milestones along the way, including the (imo) god-awful Miscommunication Trope. I finally gave up, skipped about 2hrs of story, and just listened to the last chapter and epilogue.
