Good story!!

I really liked the story and how everything played out. I wish they would have went with a different narrator. Her voice stayed the same the entire story. The character’s emotions sounded the same in every situation.

Lovable.

Enjoyable. The story avoids implausible drama. I love a love story about real grownups (40+).

Good Story but Narrator was Lacking

I’m a fan of LaQuette’s storytelling and enjoyed Vanessa and Michael’s relationship overall. However, while Denise Wallace is a talented narrator, she didn’t feel like the strongest match for this story. The narration lacked enough vocal distinction between several characters, which made it harder to stay fully immersed. Janae’s voice felt a bit overly sassy, and Cindy’s came across as somewhat whiny and distracting at times. The story itself was engaging, but a different narration style might have made the audiobook experience more compelling.

Good but not great

I really wanted to love this book. Anything with a black female lead falling in love calls to me. Although it was good, it wasn't great. First, the narrator just wasn't my cup of tea. They were very clear but they also came off very flat and dry. Any dialogue that obviously had more emotion or heartache sounded like everything else in the book. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read it on my own. Second, the mispronounced Korean was a big thumbs down. There were only a few words that came up. Was Google or YouTube not available for reference? Last, the author had the characters saying things and phrases that I just don't think people say in real life? Who says, "I'm allergic to pet dander" rather than just "I'm allergic to pets/cats/dogs". And you're probably wondering, really? It wouldn't have been a big deal if she said it once. But then it constantly kept coming up! I honestly laughed! Who says pet dander?! Also, when our guy Michael was getting in "the mood", he also said weird phrases that turned me off.
So yeah, good but not great.

Romance Plot

I loved this book. From page one, I was hooked; and throughout the book, I never lost interest. The romance was just right, the characters were realistic, and the plot was amazing! This was my first book by the author and definitely won’t be my last.
