Resumen del Editor

New York Times number-one best-selling author Richard Eyre contends that the three things today's society desires most - control, ownership, and independence - are, paradoxically, what bring the most discouragement and unhappiness in our lives. Providing a mind-changing exploration of the inherent problems with our fixation on material possessions, control over our lives, and independence from others, Eyre responds with a unique and engaging counterpoint of how to switch to the joy-giving alternatives of serendipity, stewardship, and interdependence and thus live a more verdant and abundant life.

The first half of The Happiness Paradox explores today's challenges to happiness. The second half of the book explores The Happiness Paradigm: How a New View Can Turn Your Life Right-Side Up. Eyre, author of Teaching Your Children Values, The Entitlement Trap, and The Turning, uses his engaging and highly personal style to walk us through a mental paradigm shift that can change our lives. An impactful and illuminating exploration of how what we seek impacts our well-being, The Happiness Paradox/The Happiness Paradigm is one of the most unique books ever written about our search for lasting joy.

This is a must-read

This book has some surprising yet undeniable truths to it. The first section that discusses things we strive for but can actually keep us from achieving happiness has opened my eyes to things I'll never be able to forget. The second section I was a little less excited by, but not because I disbelieved any of it. I just felt like the second part paved a clear path for someone who is a little more of a spiritual person than I am. It did give me many things to consider and search out my feelings on, and I have no doubt that I will use a great many of the author's findings as I continue paving my own path to happiness.

Rethink your goals and ambitions

This book was an important “reset” for me to ask myself a few questions: what do I really want, why am I doing what I’m doing, and is what I am doing going to get me what I really want? I realize I have been pursuing the wrong things, and true happiness comes from thinking on a higher level about the things we own, the people we lead, and the plans we try to make. Thank you Mr. Eyre for this thoughtful and inspired book!

Changing your mindset

This book challenges the concept that material items and power will make you happy. The viewpoints and ideas really make sense. Definitely food for thought. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I got dissapointed half way in the book

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I am always hesitant to give a negative review, but I think it is better to be honest in this review. This book caught my attention since I have always liked self-help books and thought this book would leave great teachings. The book is divided in two parts, the first part (Happiness paradox was pretty good. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I was happy to hear a couple of scriptures and references to my church's teachings. I believe the authors are members of my church. However, they lost me in the second part, starting with the concept of spiritual serendipity? I honestly lost interest after an hour of listening to the second part and stopped listening. Hope this feedback is helpful.

bored

I didn't enjoy the narrator's voice. Listened to more than half and felt like it was a waste of time. I was bored of hearing about their travels.
