Resumen del Editor

New York Times and number-one Sunday Times best-selling author and “brilliant storyteller” (Shelf Awareness, starred review) Lisa Jewell weaves another suspenseful thriller about a shocking murder in a picturesque and well-to-do English town, perfect for fans of Big Little Lies.

Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It’s the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It’s not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back 30 times with a kitchen knife in their own homes.

Someone must have seen something.

Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years of working in Ibiza. She and her husband, Alfie, are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam. He’s the principal of the local high school, twice her age, and devastatingly attractive. What starts as an innocent infatuation soon escalates into fixation, and before long, Joey can’t keep her eyes off of Tom.

Or the principal’s son, Freddie, who dreams of working as a spy and has been developing his surveillance skills by keeping meticulous logs of the coming and goings in the area. And, as he approaches his 15th birthday, his attention - and his lens - are turning more and more toward the local women.

Or perhaps single mother Frances Tripp, who has long been convinced she is being stalked. Her teenage daughter, Jenna, is worried these delusions are signs of her mother’s deteriorating mental health, particularly now that her paranoia has found a specific target: Tom Fitzwilliam. Frances is determined to keep an eye on him until she can prove he is behind her persecution.

Twenty years earlier, a schoolgirl writes in her diary, charting her doomed obsession with a handsome young English teacher named Mr. Fitzwilliam.

Nobody knows why this horrific murder was committed, but someone in Melville Heights knows who did it. As the community’s fearful eyes turn on each other, the question remains:

If you hate nosy neighbors, you’ll love this
"After taxes, my least favorite part of moving to the suburbs is the feeling that everyone is in everyone else’s business. In real life, I steer clear of neighborhood drama—which might be why experiencing it vicariously is such a thrill. Lisa Jewell, author of stunners like And Then She Was Gone and I Found You, confirms things are just as claustrophobic across the pond with the paranoiacally titled Watching You. Set in an upper-crust enclave of Bristol, England, it starts with a mysterious murder and a few tantalizing clues before shifting to various points of view. Through Gabrielle Glaister’s crisp narration, I dove right into all the obsession, scandal, and creepy voyeurism—through my headphones, happily, and away from prying eyes."

Suspenseful and funny!

Great story. Keeps you guessing! You will fall in love and hate with the well written characters. Lisa jewel writes them so well . Her descriptions are so good that at times you are repulsed by the details she gives! Also had me laughing out loud with her one liners!

A must read!

This story had me intrigued from Chapter 1. I knew there would be a twist and thought I could figure it out. Slowly everything came to together. Ugh I just wish I knew what happened with the sister? I won’t relieve too much but I still have so many questions. Overall I did enjoy this book.

A puzzle that keeps you wondering

All characters of the story are subjected to be the murderer and it kept me wanting to know more to see who was guilty and who wasn’t. I absolutely loved it

Worth a try

The beginning was slow but had a few interesting points that kept me intrigued. It was a bit drawn out around the character Mr. Fitzwilliam. The last few chapters were where the twists and things started to make it one of those "couldn't put it down" books. I enjoyed.

Great story

I really enjoyed this book. Great character development! Hated to have it end. The narrator was easy to listen to.

Mysteriously intriguing

While I didn’t care for the British accent at first, as the story picked up, I barely noticed it as I became enthralled with listening to another great suspense by Lisa Jewell.
This story is reminiscent of the Girls in the Garden for me as it takes place in a English village and involves an entanglement for teenage and adult drama, with of course a murder at the forefront.

Great mystery!

This story was very well written. I enjoyed the character development. The plot was complicated enough to make the story exciting without being tedious. I wonder whether Lisa Jewell feels that using *f—-* in her character’s thoughts and dialogue makes them more real or her story/ writing better. It would have been a 5 star book if she had left it out.

All over the place until the final 1/3 of the book

This was a tough one for me, as I found that I really didn't care too much about any of the characters. They all had different lives that were woven around one character, but a lot of it seemed forced and unnecessary. There was one twist that I didn't see coming, but the rest was predictable. I've read I Found You and Then She Was Gone by this same author, but this one didn't seem to be on the same level as her others. The narrator did a good job, but there was no real distinction between male and female voices, so it became confusing as to who was talking.
