F word

I return this book because several hours into it they introduce a character that seems to think they have to use the f-word every other word and I'm just kind of tired of it so I returned it.

Pretty good overall

This story is interesting and unique. The mystery is a little depressing but held my attention. The growth of the main character made me cheer for her and want to see things turn out well. Overall I thought it was sad but I enjoyed it.

Another “wonder” from Lisa Jewell.

Another masterpiece. Thank you Lisa. This was “brilliant”. As an American woman, i have been learning some of British colloquialisms, hopefully.

Keeps you wanting more

I love the way Helen Duff narrates this story. this is my 3rd Lisa Jewel book and although her stories are a bit slow at times, I can't stop listening. She does a great job of really giving the reader a visual.

Great Listen

I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. Fun to listen to, not too deep.

Pretty Good, worth the listen.

Not too bad. This story kept my attention pretty much throughout. Pretty shallow, (nothing too profound here!!), but entertaining enough for what it is. Got a bit tiresome toward the end at which point I think the editor might have fallen asleep. Narrator did a good job!!

Couldn’t finish it.

I was not impressed. Maybe you will be. I fast forwarded and finally just fave up

Loved it!

I enjoyed this book very much. I struggled a bit in the beginning because someone had told me how great it was, and I just wasn't seeing it. Now that I'm finished I do. I will be looking into other books from this author.

One hit wonder

I do enjoy Lisa Jewell novels, but not this one. The story is boring and going nowhere. It is overloaded with listings of details that seem not to be that important to the story at all. The story is not captivating my attention. I am going to finish listening to it but I’ve been skipping a lot. Just want it to finally end so I could move on to another book.

R word!

I like books like this where a young woman must unravel secrets about a family member and comes into their own in the process.

HOWEVER. This book is from 2019 and, even though it's set in 2000, it can be unnecessarily politically incorrect. In one scene, Anna says that she doesn't want someone to think she's "retarded," which is no longer appropriate. As always in Ms. Jewell's writing, there are also elements of fatphobia/shaming (I really wish she could get past her body image issues that bleed into her work), so please use discretion if you struggle in those areas and don't want to read about things that may trigger you.
