Cameron has a secret, he knows Kain isn’t dead. A secret he has kept because he would have to explain how he knew and it isn’t time for that yet. But the future is always in motion and an attack turns into a blessing when Cameron is thrown into captivity with a creature the hunters had long thought dead.
Dust is a secret, locked up in a basement for over half a century while the cult who holds his chains searched for a way to harness his magic. Now they’ve found it, in the form of the most beautiful man Dust has ever seen, a gift dragons dream of from the moment they hatch, Dust’s rider. And if the two of them don’t escape soon then the both of them may lose more than they could have ever hoped to have.

So technically, I think this is an OK book, but it really wasn’t my cup of tea. I don’t like when bad things happen to the main characters, and this will be a bit of a spoiler because it’s not outlined in the TW’s explicitly, but it happens relatively early in the book.
Cameron becomes disabled. I won’t say how, or in what way, though I don’t think it would be hard to figure out based on the TW’s that are outlined explicitly. A main character becoming disabled is always a little hard for me, but I’ve read or listen to a couple of books where it happens that I genuinely love and listen to on repeat because these characters find happiness anyway. Which I suppose Cameron does, but it doesn’t really feel like enough thought was put into his experience with becoming disabled. Yes, he was sad and traumatized, but there is so much frustration involved toward yourself and all of a sudden needing all this help and wanting to do things so badly, but you just can’t. I don’t think the author portrayed much of or enough of that. It felt like the author did that thing where they’re like “oh, but he’s supernatural and that means he can still do stuff like fight“ so it seemed a bit glazed over on the more practical front. Again, he was sad, but such a life changing event didn’t seem all that life changing. My thoughts on the subject come from my own experiences with becoming disabled, and I am aware that not everyone experiences the same things I have, but my opinion isn’t coming from nowhere.
Also, Cameron and Dust were cute, yes, but they weren’t a particularly interesting couple. That and it seems like there were a couple of missed opportunities here and there. Like, Cameron is supposed to be the reincarnation of some historical magical engineer (that or Percy is), so why is it that Percy can make magical cars but no one even mentions the idea of magical prosthetics?
But overall, I can’t say this was a bad book. I loved books one through three, this one was a bit upsetting to me personally, but technically mostly fine. Though, if you want to pretend that nothing upsetting happens to Cameron, I’d skip this one.
Additionally, book 5 is truly kind of terrible. Not just from a “this made me upset“ point of view, but from a technical perspective it’s not a good book. So if you want to listen to this one just to get to that one, I don’t recommend it. Instead, maybe make up your own ending. I promise it will make more sense and be better than book 5.
Honestly, I’d skip this one…

This was definitely my least favorite so far. The story wasn’t very exciting and the narration was lacking. If you are looking for spicy this isn’t the one for you. There is one scene at the very end and it’s very short. Taking both his eyes was a bit much and the fact that he acted like it was no big deal afterwards was very odd.
Not a fan of this one
