Great story. Narrator not.

Would prefer a better narrator. The story deserves a re-do. I’d buy it again if so.

George Guidall + T. Hillerman + Jim Chee

George Guidall has the perfect voice and delivery for the mystery that story master Tony Hillerman weaves for us. Together they make you feel that you are inside the mind and heart of the character of Jim Chee. Chee, of the slow talking Dine' - a brilliant investigator and true American hero. It's really a cinematic listen.

Ending

Great book with insights into Indian lore and history. But the last act of Jim Chee is just dumb.

True to both Navajo and Hopi cultures while at the same time being a suspenseful mystery.

Hillerman never disappoints! I always enjoy Joe Chee’s thinking through questions to come to a solution. Background information about the Hopi and Navajo cultures enhance the experience.

Simply the Best

I have read and re-read (or, I should say, listened to) so many (perhaps all now) of Tony Hillerman’s books over the past three+ decades, that I am totally a fan.

Oddly enough, I had not read this one. But, as always, it was wonderful and was classic Tony Hillerman. I will not reveal the story, but I will encourage you to get this audiobook.

When I first started listening to Mr. Hillerman’s books, he did the narration. I rather enjoyed his renditions. Later, others would narrate his books. They did a fine job, but, I feel, the best continues to be Mr. George Guidall, who, after three decades, continues to be my favorite narrator. I have listened to countless narrations by Mr. Guidall, and I have NEVER been disappointed.

When Mr. Hillerman died at a relatively young age, it saddened me greatly. I had much Tony Hillerman paraphernalia, but I had to give it away to others, as keeping it was emotionally too hard on me. Thinking back now, I should have kept it.

But, I am aware that his daughter has picked up the pen and is continuing his legacy in her own way. I will endeavor to start reading (listening to) her books now.

I highly endorse this book and all Tony Hillerman books, and encourage you to make the purchase.

Another great tale

We continue to love Hillerman’s tales. He combines mystery, character development and anthropology to make the kind of story you’ll appreciate to hear or read. He has taken the time to give us a glimpse into the thought processes of, in this case, officer Chee. We love the voice of the man who reads it. He seems to know Hillerman’s intentions in the thoughtful pace in his reading.

Chills & Thrills

Loved the descriptions of landscape, the teachings about indigenous ways of thinking and different tribal traditions. Chee’s adventure as a new tribal police officer is full of twists and turns that are engaging and inspire respect for his ingenuity and courage. Hillerman presents lots to think about as you read and after you finish the book!

Easy to follow

Several times the author had the main character, Chee, review what what he knew. This helped me to keep track of the characters and plot. Great read.
