The Cancer Misfit is here to support you when doctors, friends and family have gone 'back to normal' and assumed you can do the same. It's a life raft to help you navigate life after cancer treatment; to help you live better, think better, feel better and embrace your new future.
After the treatment stops it can be difficult to move on, and many survivors feel stuck in limbo. Saskia felt like a Cancer Misfit after her treatment - recovered physically, but mentally and emotionally still healing. Now, Saskia shares the tools that enabled her to become the happiest version of herself she has ever known.
The Cancer Misfit will help you find the truth - that your best life and most beautiful self was not the person you were before your cancer diagnosis, but the person you are today; that you've become even more powerful because of the hell you went through, and that the greatest chapter of your life is here and now.

“Those of us who have been through cancer know that surviving treatment isn’t where the journey ends. In fact, for many of us, this is where the hardest part of the cancer journey begins…stuck in a no mans land of who we used to be and who we are today…we are unfamiliar with the person we are now and everything around us feels strange and different…It felt as if I was just hit by a freight train...I believe there are many survivors out there who feel this way. ” - @saskia.lightstar in The Cancer Misfit
There are so few resources to help the 40% of cancer survivors (well of those who feel comfortable enough to say) who report that their most difficult time during their journey is when treatment ends.
When you’re fighting for your life you’re in a constant state of fight or flight, with one sole focus - staying alive. But when treatment ends and you come down out of that perpetual survival mode, all of the sudden the gravity of the entire process - from the diagnosis to the side effects of treatment to the changes in your body to the future plans that have been ripped away from you to the brain damage you’ve endured to the PTSD - ALL hit you at once. And it’s not to say that we are not INCREDIBLY grateful and aware of how lucky we are. We are ETERNALLY grateful for more time, and all of the support we received throughout the process...but suddenly we are alone in the fight, a stranger in our own bodies, and isolated from our peers because we’re going through something almost none of our friends have experienced. We are misfits in our own lives or as Saskia calls us, Cancer Misfits.
It took me a few years to understand this and get the help I needed, but it is an ongoing, daily process.
Thank you @saskia.lightstar for making me feel seen, understood and not alone today. Your book is incredible and was exactly what so many of us need! 💜
So highly recommended!
