Resumen del Editor

The hunt is on to find Patient Zero...

Both the East and the West Coasts of the United States have collapsed, and the US military is in full retreat. All their attempts to stem the tide of the dead have failed.

Former counter-terrorism agent Mark Steele and his fellow survivors have been bushwhacked in the West Virginia hills. The fringe West Virginians are teaching him a valuable lesson in the new rules of the apocalypse. The mountain folk are as resilient as they are ruthless, and Steele must find a way out to save his people.

In a desperate gamble to stop the virus, retired Air Force Colonel Michael Kinnick has been entrusted with finding Dr. Joseph Jackowski, who's gone missing in West Virginia. Kinnick's depleted unit of Special Forces soldiers have reached the breaking point as the dead assault them at every step.

Outside of Pittsburgh, Dr. Joseph Jackowski's quest to find Patient Zero has stalled. Unwillingly conscripted into the National Guard, he has been enlisted into Colonel Jackson's rapidly depleting force. As the military quarantine disintegrates around Pittsburgh, death marches closer, and time is running out.

Steele is forced to go further than he ever imagined in order to save his loved ones, but when he is done, will anyone still recognize him? Will he recognize them? And will he recognize himself?

In this thrilling sequel to End Time, Daniel Greene continues his fast-paced and gripping apocalyptic saga. The Breaking transports us to a near future composed of death, honor, destruction, and hope as the United States falls and lives crumble before a devastating zombie virus.

WHY SHOULD IT BE THAT 'WE' GET ALONG SO AWFULLY?!

"The Breaking" highlights an intense good vs evil battle for survival.

Sadly, flesh eating zombies are not enough of a reason for the few living humans left to come together, and fight as a united front, all in a mutual quest for survival. Nope... Not when their are a limitless number of human psychopaths still roaming the earth, and the only law they will ever face will now have to be dealt out via vigilante justice. Everything goes in this new world, and living in a constant state of paranoia and sheer terror is apparently the new normal for those still remaining. Survival of the fittest in its rawest form!

This episode was an epic emotional roller-coaster ride, upon which I found myself shouting, cheering and fist pumping the air more times than I can count.

Mr. Greene really knows how to reel in his readers/listeners with his powerful storylines. The humanization of all the characters (protagonists and antagonists, alike) was fantastic! Every single one had a story to tell, and as a listener, it was easy to garner insight into why each character very likely manifested (for better and/or worse) the behaviors we heard described. As a result, my heart went out to one particular character, whom I initially detested, however, after hearing about the unavoidable, and unfortunate life-course they were predestined to living/surviving (pre-apocalypse) I completely understood why they grew into the type of individual they ended up becoming, and actually developed a great deal of compassion for them well before the book's end. Still did not like their personality, yet, I understood why it was the way it was. Good lesson in not allowing my first impression to be set in stone.
The authenticity of all of these characters was palpable. Just . . . Wow!

My listening experience, as always, was supreme! Thanks to the talents of Mr. Szarabajka, who nails every character with a phenomenally distinctive voice for each. #listening pleasure!

Still listening, and now that I have.

The Gwen character should have been stronger, you have her making really bad decisions. That I think, even in a Zombie Apocalypse is crazy. You made Steele show strong, and then turn around to only drop him down to a weak "P" whip fool. I will continue to listen, because I intrigue who will survive. But, you got to give me something more, in the next audible book.

Cute but botched homage to G. Romero's Pittsburgh

Many missed opportunities situating the story in Pittsburgh. Overall okay, but 1)The incline is poorly described/understood by the author, lots of interesting possibilities were left on the table 2)none of the Pittsburgh characters speak Pittsburghese accent/dialect (that would have been golden). 3)next time the crew should use a map and plot a route that avoids zombies. 4)It's Fort Pitt tunnel/bridge, not Fort Penn, and the fort played a role in the French/Indian war not the Revolutionary War (all of this underscores author's shoddy research). 6)Not enough sport's logos on the Zombies' attire.

A Breath of Life in the World of the Undead

The Breaking is a dark and gripping thriller thanks to the writing skills of author Daniel Greene. These interwoven stories provide something for everyone; a band of loyal (mostly?!!) friends, lovers, scientists, federal agents and military to give us a bit of perspective from each but the individuality to remind us that people often don't fit in to our neat little boxes. Just when I thought we might be safely moving in to known territory, Greene takes us down an unforeseen path to his terrifying world where we couldn't have known we wanted to travel. I'm again in awe at Greene's fresh talent and ability to breathe life in to the world of the undead.

disappointed in author

Decent story but after living in WV 45 of my 51 years I’ve never heard anyone from this state speak like these hillbillies. I even grew up in southern WV! I wont say that I’m offended because every tom, dick and harry is offended at the littlest things nowadays and it’s annoying. I will say that I am disappointed that the author is perpetuating a ridiculous image of
of WV.

Needs to write womens roles better

I do like the stories, better then some apocalyptic stories. But the women are either weak and whiny, objects of sexual abuse or compliance for survival and or weirdly angry/ sensitive over things that seem unrealistic. I wish the author either didn’t include women or did better.

Good and Entertaining Reading

Most of the characters are developing nicely. The narrator is doing a nice job. I'm looking forward to starting book three.

Better than the first book but

But Gwen really got on my nerves in this one, so much internal conflict about meaningless stuff that I wanted to scream … shut up already

Other than that the story moves along kind of like the Walking Dead ….with some character differences

Let’s see what book 3 brings us shall we?

Great addition to the series

Overall I liked this book, the zombies are taking over, loyalties are tested and relationships both formed and broken. There is plenty of action, fighting and excitement to keep you entertained. I do have one problem, however I won’t go into details because of spoilers, suffice to say Gwen and some of her choices make no sense to me and have me disliking her. I’m willing to wait and see what happens next, hopefully some clarification on things, but Steel and Gwen I am not feeling. Ignoring that the rest of the story, the majority of the story is exciting and well worth the read.
