Resumen del Editor

When an LAPD narcotics officer is found with a fatal bullet wound and a suicide note, Detective Harry Bosch follows a bloody trail of drug murders across the Mexico border.

Working on the case, LAPD detective Harry Bosch is reminded of the primal police rule he learned long ago: Don't look for the facts, but the glue that holds them together. Soon Harry's making some very dangerous connections, starting with a dead cop and leading to a bloody string of murders that wind from Hollywood Boulevard to the back alleys south of the border. Now this battle-scarred veteran will find himself in the center of a complex and deadly game - one in which he may be the next and likeliest victim.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

An early Harry Bosch Book

This is book 2 in the series. I have read some of the later books and am now going back and reading the early books. This shows a typical Bosch unable to follow orders, he is told the case of the dead cop was not his but he investigates anyway. Was interesting the information of the Med-fly and the release of the sterile flies. Guess this was just after the straying. I lived thorough all this but had forgotten about it. Nice thing about books that include items and current events in the story writing, because eventually the story becomes a brief history lesson. This book also introduces Harry to his father. Dick Hill does a great job narrating the story.

better than Black Echo

This is a sit on the edge of the seat, turn up the volumn, and drive around the city one more time story. five stars is all that is allowed - but it is a six.

Make few friends and take no prisoners - Bosch

Harry has made few mistakes in his work, and makes even fewer friends. The Black Ice is that slick surface that will kill him if he's not careful, but then again Bosch never seems to be too careful.
Great story, superb narration, and Michael Connelly again weaves us through the story of a gritty detective that does not stop at anything until he finds the answers he needs to solve several related homicides. Throw in a couple of beautiful intriguing women, corrupt cops, the DEA, and a drug cartel, you have the making of a story that you cannot stop listening to.

Read this book and immediately jumped to the next

Just plain fun. Not a lot of substance, but very captivating and well-written.

I went right on to the next in the series, which is just as good. I'm also listening to the Lincoln Lawyer series which ties in later in the chronology of the Bosch universe. I'm very happy with Connelly's storytelling.

another great Harry Bosch story

I didn't figure out the twists until the end. Harry is consistently and doggedly chasing the investigation to an exciting conclusion. an excellent read.

Rereading - sooo good

I read a few of the later books and loved them. I have restarted every book from the beginning.

The Black Ice was very good. Connely has a nice suttle view of plot and flow of characters. I know I will enjoy all of he future books.

Solid story with excellent audio production

There's not much to say about the story line: loner cop, corrupt superiors, and drug dealers. Pretty standard fare.

Now, couple that with Michael Connelly's writing abilities, some twists and turns, throw in a most excellent performance and production (especially considering this was recorded almost 20 years ago), and you have a very entertaining listen ahead of you.

While this book does stand alone, you may want to start with "The Black Echo" just to keep things in order. Both books have been solid value for my dollars.

Great read of post Vietnam drug impact

The story links the tunnels in Vietnam to the survival of veterans of the tunnels who get mixed up in drugs from Mexico. The politics of the Los Angeles police department are so complex and occasionally so corrupt that the book is

Just How I Like It

Love a good, tight, well-written mystery with a solid lead character. It’s been a while since I read the first book, but I think I liked this one better. It has plenty of police-procedural details to keep those readers happy, but not so much that those who are more about the story (like me) feel too bogged down. An example of what I mean by tight writing this book: A scene at a bullfight. Some authors might have used it just for the exotic location and to pass along a few facts or move the plot a bit, but Connelly uses it in multiple ways—enough pageantry and realism to bring readers there, character development, mystery development, two character interactions, and one bit used later. I won’t be reading the next one right away (variety addict that I am), but it’s definitely in my queue. BTW, I'd like to thank the author for NOT writing this in first person.
