Resumen del Editor

Suspended from his job with the LAPD, Harry Bosch must face the darkest parts of his past to track down his mother's killer...even if it costs him his life.

Harry Bosch's life is on the edge. His earthquake-damaged home has been condemned. His girlfriend has left him. He's drinking too much. And after attacking his commanding officer, he's even had to turn in his L.A.P.D. detective's badge. Now, suspended indefinitely pending a psychiatric evaluation, he's spending his time investigating an unsolved crime from 1961: the brutal slaying of a prostitute who happened to be his own mother.

Even after three decades, Harry's questions generate heat among L.A.'s top politicos. And as the truth begins to emerge, it becomes more and more apparent that someone wants to keep it buried. Someone very powerful...very cunning...and very deadly.

Edgar Award-winning author Michael Connelly has created a dark, fast-paced suspense thriller that cuts to the core of Harry Bosch's character. Once you start it, there's no turning back.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Grabs you and shakes you-and it feels great." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Connelly is at the top of his form in this brilliant mystery. Dick Hill does an outstanding job capturing Bosch's cynicism and anger, confusion and hurt. Hill changes his voice well to portray the other characters, most notably the female police psychiatrist...this is a first-rate production." (AudioFile)

"A powerful book." (Houston Chronicle)

Great Listen

With this story, the listener/reader really has the opportunity to get inside Bosch's head.

Connelly does a great job of spinning the personal side of the murder of Bosch's mother with a really good detective story.

Dick Hill is good as narrator.

Definitely recommended.

Poor recording quality and mispronunciations

I’m listening to all of the Bosch books in order and the recording quality of the first three books was fantastic. This one is recorded low and sounds “fuzzy”. Dick Hill’s reading is mostly fine but the mispronunciations of words like “acclimated” and “forte” were distracting. The story itself is worth the listen despite those two issues.

love bosch

...but I do get a bit tired of dialogue driven plots. This book is good, but narrator not my favorite. Still gave it four stars. 🌠🌠🌠🌠

Wonderful like all the ones before

Powerful and even more raw than usual from the one and only Harry Bosch. Tremendous writing and performance.

Understanding Harry Bosch

Any additional comments?

I have read several of the later Bosch books and really like the series. This book is a good one to pick up even if you have continued on with the series. Bosch is human and has flaws. This book does much to explain where those come from. We finally get the details regarding Harry's childhood.

It isn't the best book from a solving a mystery perspective. The twists seem a bit contrived. The story, however is essential to understanding Harry. I almost think you should read other books and come back to this one once you have those "what makes this guy tick" questions in your head. It will all make a lot of sense after reading this book.

I thought the narration was good, but sometimes you just don't know what you are going to get with the female voices. Still, it was well worth the credit. My recomendation is to not start with this one, but come back when you have gotten into the character.

A look into Harry Bosch's past

The Last Coyote was so great. I was a little bit nervous when I started because Harry isn't actively working with the department during this installment - I LOVE all of the secondary cast and coworkers. But I should have just trusted Michael Connelly because I couldn't get enough of this story.

We get a lot of Harry's backstory here. At least it felt like it filled in some of the holes and dark spaces from when Harry was a child, specifically with regard to his mother's murder. At the start of the book, Harry is on mandatory time off from the station because of an incident with one of his superiors, and he is undergoing mandatory psychiatric evaluation to see if he should be allowed to come back to work. During his time off, he decides to look further into his mother's murder and it takes him down a long trail of suspects and across the United States. I have to admit that the person that I thought was the killer actually wasn't, and this completely shocked me.

I loved it. Totally, completely worth the credit I spent on it. I feel like I understand Harry much more now. I feel like this book was just as good as the first book in the series.
