Resumen del Editor

It's not easy being a rebel. So many new skills to assimilate. Never mind strategic planning, weapons expertise and the like - there's bicycle-stealing, oil-stain removal and boat steering to be mastered first. And quickly.

It's the time of the Civil Uprisings, and two young women set out to make a difference. Their only problem? They don't know where they are. Or where they're going. Or what to do when they get there. Other than that...

Fans of St Mary's will enjoy this glimpse into the past of some of their favourite characters.

Shock and Awe

The Battersea Barricades have been mentioned in previous books in this series and I have wondered what happened there. It was clear that it was an immensely important event for this series and that three elderly ladies from St. Mary's had been involved. In this short story I found out what happened, and it is amazing.

This story is not humorous. It is intensely moving - almost mesmerizing. I had tears in my eyes for the last ten minutes. Jodi Taylor does an excellent job writing this serious story and Zara Ramm does her usual excellent job at narrating it.

This one so hit home

As usual a great story but it made me so sad as I could envision the Ukraine. If only they could stand up and say enough and end a war

The ladies tell their story

Taylor always entertains with her intelligent and often highly humorous writing. Don’t be misled - she has no problem killing off characters. It’s St George’s Day at St Mary’s, and Max ends up joining Mrs Marks, Enderby and Shore who are together in remembrance of the fighting at the Battersea Barricades - the final battle of the Civil Uprisings. They’re joined by Dr Bairstow, and the three women share their story. Well done.
Ramm does a good job of narration.

Great for a taste!

If you want to try out the wonderful St. Mary's world, start here. It's a stand alone story that explains events from many years before the main storyline. No background needed!

Relating a vital battle and victory

The Battersea Barricades have oft been mentioned in passing in The Chronicles of Saint Mary’s. Here, the story is told by three unassuming Saint Mary’s characters who would otherwise be overlooked. They are true heroes who came back after the war and eventually found a home at Saint Mary’s. They didn’t brag but quietly shared their personal history over some wine on St George’s Day.

Max was privy to the relating of their story, saw the unique relationship between them, an IMHO was in awe of these three women.

One of the best of the short stories

Oof, this one was a gut wrencher! I loved getting to know Mrs. Mack, Mrs. Shaw, and Mrs. Enderby better. It feels different than the other stories - Max is very much not the focus - but it was so enjoyable listening to the ladies that you hardly noticed. Probably my favorite of the short stories so far!

Oh My Heavens...

This was a ridiculously off point book and yet I cried during it. Not a St. Mary's story but quite lovely.
