Resumen del Editor

Charming and feisty Poppy Redfern stumbles into murder in this exciting new World War II historical mystery series from critically acclaimed author Tessa Arlen.

Summer 1942. The world has been at war for three long and desperate years. In the remote English village of Little Buffenden, Poppy Redfern’s family house and farmland has been requisitioned by the War Office as a new airfield for the American Air Force. As the village's Air Raid Warden, Poppy spends her nights patrolling the village as she tries to ease her neighbors’ fears about the “Friendly Invasion” and what it means to their quiet way of life.

When two young, popular women who were dating American servicemen are found strangled, Poppy quickly realizes that her little town has been divided by murder. The mistrust and suspicion of their new American partners in war threatens to tear Little Buffenden apart. Poppy decides to start her own investigation with the help of a charismatic American pilot and she soon unearths some chilling secrets and long-held grudges. Poppy will have no choice but to lay a trap for a killer so perilously close to home, she might very well become the next victim....

Delightful!

Really enjoyed listening to it. Thoughtful characters. Different outlooks on conditions of war. Nice to have interactions from different countries.

Plucky heroine, her dog, and her Air Force boyfriend solve murders

This book takes you on a fun, exciting, and sometimes dangerous adventure into WWII England—an upbeat crime mystery that kept me up into the wee hours of the morning at the conclusion. The heroine—Poppy—is an air warden in her small village. The details about village life are very well done and the personalities are expertly sketched. I loved Poppy, Bess, and Griff! I am looking forward to buying the next Poppy Redfern adventure when it is released in December. This is a light, energetic read and a happy escape from everyday life.

Great Story Complex Mystery

Tessa Arlen is a new author for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Great characters , lots of rabbit trails and
red herrings. I see its the only book by this author offered on Audible. I went to Amazon and ordered 3 print books
by her in another series. I hope she will continue this series! I loved Poppy! The narration was perfect.

Perfect! Can't Wait for More!

I'm pretty picky with my books, and I loved this. I can't recommend it enough!

WHY YOU NEED THIS BOOK:

-The WW2 setting was fascinating, had heart, yet wasn't sad or depressing.
-The details were perfect and engrossing.
-I loved that this book was for adults without any "adult" scenes, swearing, etc.
-It was a believable story, which made me love it more.
-The heroin was wonderful and relate-able.
-The murderer was a surprise, yet there were clues scattered throughout so it made sense at the end.
-The narration was superb.
-I normally listen to books that are 8 hours long, but this didn't seem long to me. It had a nice pace.

I can think of no reason you wouldn't love this. Just buy it!

Should be in the Young Adult Section,

Poppy Redfern often acts and sounds like she is a teenager, not an adult with a responsible position. I often wanted to shake her and tell her to grow up. If you are looking for a book with no sexual tension or bad language, this is it. A few reluctant hugs are the most you will get between Poppy and American GI Giff, even though she thinks she is in love with him.

A good editor good have chopped about 2 hours from the narrative and saved the reader from Poppy's angst and repetitive suspicion of everyone in the village, accept her grandparents of course. And her alter ego, the main character in a novel she is writing, keeps injecting herself into the story. It is annoying.

I think this book would fit better into the Young Adult section. The dialogue is simplistic, the language does not always fit the period, and the long internal dialogues stop the story from moving forward. Why does the reader care about oranges in California? Most of all, women characters who constantly do stupid things are annoying.

New favorite book!!!

I loved it!! I can’t wait to start the next one! I hope this becomes a long series.
P.S. like most readers, I want to see Poppy & Griff end up together — not only because they’re a well matched couple, but I think they could have some great adventures for her to write for Hollywood when he goes back home.

Above average wartime English countryside mystery

While not overly complex or compelling, this was an enjoyable lesson, well researched, with a good if not stellar narrator. Good enough that I will probably listen to the next in the series!
