Miss Ada Quicksilver, a student of London's Lovelace Academy for Promising Young Women, is spending her holiday in Ireland to pursue her anthropological study of fairies. She visits Dublin's absinthe bars to investigate a supposed association between the bittersweet spirit and fairy sightings.

One night a handsome Irishman approaches her, introducing himself as Edward Donoghue. Edward takes absinthe to relieve his sleepwalking, and she is eager to hear whether he has experience with fairies. Ada is torn between a sensible fear of becoming entangled with the clearly troubled gentleman and her compelling desire to ease his suffering. Finally she accepts his invitation, and they arrive in time for the winter solstice. That night, the secret of Edward's affliction is revealed: he is, in fact, a lord in two worlds and can no longer suppress his shadow self.

Little does either of them realize that their blossoming friendship-and slowly kindling passion-will lead to discoveries that wrench open a door sealed for centuries, throwing them into a war that will change Ireland forever.

a bit of everything

I really loved this book! it has a bit of everything and a lot of magic :)
Adventure, history, love, mythical creatures and passion.

Can’t keep it straight

Hard to follow a story with so many characters to keep straight. Needed a map of the good guys and bad guys. When there is war, cannot tell who is fighting on what side. Really tried to like the book and those who like lots of twists in the plot will want to read it.

More adventure/fantasy than romance

This is not usually the type of books that Are usually listen to it was a good lesson however I don’t think I would choose to listen to another one like this. the mythical creatures fantasy fairy thing isn’t really what I reach for but overall the story was cute. quick simple love scenes, nothing to rave about.

Great Story, Not Great Delivery

Oh for the love of pauses! I've never been so bored during a battle or an abduction in all my days! It took a real effort to get all the way through the story and I'm usually a voracious listener. The same Great narrators that were amazingly suited to yearning and sex were absolutely terrible for the action that the writer put together. I saw there is a second book in the series, but it has the same narrators and I may never get to it.

The narrating was captivating!

Absolutely loved this book! So well written. You really need to pay attention though. The narrators made the book come to life! Got lost in the story and it took me into a dream like state, I had to keep going back to make sure I knew what was going on because the narrators voices were so beautiful. Can’t resist Irish accents, love stories, and fairytales!

Romance and Fantasy

Great story. Combined the romance I wanted combined with the fantasy I needed. Looking forward for the story to continue, on to book 2.

The absinthe earl

I struggled to finish the book, not because of the story, but because of my health issues. The story is good.

Loved This

From beginning to end it was a great story. I loved the narration. Definitely recommend.

Disappointed

I had a lot of fun with Ms Fisher's version of Jane Eyre, so I went in search of other books. This one dragged, and it was hard to connect with the characters. Got about halfway through and just couldn't finish. Nice use of Celtic myths, though

An absolute treat!

Don’t be put off by the cover - this book was a wonderful adventure into a new world with rich characters. Can’t wait for the next installment!
