a real eye opener

This book provided great insight. Not just as a therapist but from a view of a child that went through these issues. This is worth the read.

Great Tips & Tools for co-parenting or divorce

If you could sum up The 7 Fatal Mistakes Divorced and Separated Parents Make in three words, what would they be?

This book has so many tips, ideas and coaching exercises that are so helpful when dealing with divorce and co-parenting. I love that Shannon Rios puts the child first and that the focus of the book is on creating the best possible experience and environment for the child. The questions that she asks you throughout the book really make you think about the consequences of how you act in certain situations. I would recommend this book to anyone going through separation/divorce and anyone who wants to raise emotionally healthy children.

Oversimplistic, out-dated, offensive and preachy

I should have known how out of touch this book would be by the click-bait title and the poor design of its cover (oh, but you CAN judge a book by its cover, oftentimes), but I bought it anyway. A big mistake. This book is old fashioned, sexist (it literally says "girls who do not have a male parental relationship will run to the first boy they meet at age 12"). Whaaat??? Also, hello, many many healthy and happy girls are raised by TWO women in same-sex parenting partnerships, or by a grandmother, or by a single mother (and nowadays there are of course, women who choose to conceive when they are not even in a relationship to begin with). The book also does not acknowledge that many marriages break up due to the woman being emotionally or physically abused by her spouse, a break up that actually helps to protect her child. The book threatens you about your decision to go to court, saying it's the worst thing you can do to your child, without at all acknowledging the very real fact that the court is often the only way for a mother to have the protection she needs for her child and her finances.

Perhaps if you've never read any other book on parenting, relationships, healing, or gone to therapy or worked to develop emotional intelligence in any way, this book may be useful (assuming you disregard the sexist, homophobic, and patronizing language), however, for anyone who already actively thinks about their lives, the chapters here are not thoughtful, not intuitive and are downright preachy. The very beginning of the book uses the passive aggressive and truly ridiculous line "if you love your child, you must do these exercises". Who are you to question anyone's love for their child?
Do not waste your money.
