Yes I would. It's part of a series that I am enjoying very much.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Not knowing where the next cop would be attacked, or where, made every moment intense.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His changing vocal inflection for the different characters is so subtle, yet, distinct, you start to recognize the characters by their conversation.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I listen to audiobooks when I go to bed. Depending on how tired I am dictates how many nights it takes to complete a book.

I am really enjoying this series.

If you thought "Mind Prey" was good, this one will blow your socks off. Great Story, Fast Paced.

Wonderful Police Novels

Read all these years ago. now I'M enjoy ING listening to them. Only way I can stand to exercise.

This book is definitely one of my favorites in the series! Weather is a bit of an ass but who know what anyone would really be like in that situation. Still kinda bugs me haha

great villains!

I first read some of the Prey series in 1999 when I was on longterm bedrest with my second child.
I remember reading late into the night and being afraid to put my book down because I was afraid of dreaming about the villains. For some reason I never continued the series. So now that I needed easy, quick reads that would entertain but not require a lot of thought I decided to return to Minneapolis with Lucas Davenport and his crew. This one is a reread, but as it was 21 years ago, I didn't remember it at all.

This installment opens when Davenport and his team arrest a crew that has been holding up credit unions. Unfortunately there is a shootout and two women are killed. And to make matters worse, it turns out they are the wife and sister of a violent criminal named Dick La Chaise who is sitting in prison. The state makes the choice to allow LaChaise to attend his wife's funeral, and because they don't consider him a flight risk they send him with only one escort. (This part required a major suspension in disbelief.)

It is no surprise to the reader when the escort is found dead at the funeral home and LaChaise is gone. LaChaise has two friends helping him out and they are bent on revenge against Davenport and his team, aiming to kill their loved ones in retaliation.

For Lucas this means that LaChaise intends to kill his fiance, Weather Karkinnen. (I always wish that she had a bit bigger role on the pages of these books, so I was happy to see her as a target.)

Sandford's villains are my favorite. They are creepy and evil, and yet I can usually understand their motivations. They seem very real and I always feel as though we could read about them in our newspapers.

Riveting!!

It was on going madness and chaos until the very end. Many plot twists and feel good and upsetting moments in the story. One of the better books in this Prey series for me so far.

Unabridged ... finally.

I am a major fan of Sandford's "Prey" series, so I admit a bias here. I love them all. I have listened to Sudden Prey a few times in the abridged version (I have it on cassette). But finally here is an unabridged version, which is even better. Richard Ferrone is an excellent narrator - to me, he IS the voice of Lucas Davenport.

Excitement

Well written and very exciting. He crafts a story from start to finish that keeps you hanging on to every word.

Not my favorite, but...

This prey book seems a little dull, relatively speaking, compared to John Sandford's usual stories. Instead of the extreme psycho crazy sadistic cruel but brilliant villains, these guys seem to be just mean. And not real smart. I've never been a fan of cowboy stuff, but if you fancy it this book is for you. it has the old west gunfighter showdown ok corral flavor but the suspense is really only edge of your seat caliber in the last scene after the main event. one of the highlights is that Lucas and Weather find out about each other in a deep and dark way. It's still great entertainment but has some foggy areas.

Yep, Another Great Story.

As usual, Lucas Davenport (and his team) do not disappoint. There is a lot of action and the plot can seem a little chaotic, however, that's kind of I would expect a scenario like this to play out. My only concern after reading this book is that I need to buy more credits to get the rest of the series.
